    Very LOGICAL and basic!

Very helpful and logical. After reading my Dancing with Fear book by Paul Foxman (also a very good book in a different way) I felt I needed more. I found this book and at first bought his other one on self-coaching and after reading it, realized I needed the one for anxiety/ depression. I found this book to be very insightful and full of useful techniques to turn yourself around from anxiety or depression. The book is centered around anxiety/ depression being a learned bad habit that can be changed if we work hard at it. All if stemming from some form of insecurity and our need to be in control. Letting go is the key and he gives good ways at how we can learn to do that. I recommend this book to anyone who is tired of feeling like a victim to their anxiety or depression and who is willing to make an effort to change. The book won't change you - you have to do that, but it can help you understand that how you feel is your own doing and therefore your own undoing.

    Great Book

I loved this book. It helped me so much. Within a few days of finishing the book I was able to decrease the persistent mindless chatter that goes on inside my head by at least 40%. Now I am on alert for any voices in my head that impede my life. Now the voices seem to hide from me but I am determined to be deligent. I no longer live my life inside my head.

I use the self-coaching technique every time a tiny negative thought or mindless chatter occurs. The thoughts & mindless chatter occur so quickly that I have not had the opportunity to write it down.

I am so glad I read this book. I learned I had a lot of Child Like Reflex Thinking constantly ruling my life. I grew up in a troubled childhood life but that was long ago and I am very happy with my life now so I learned from the techniques in the book that I can really lead a happy life without any guilt.

Great Tool for Anxiety and Depression

I highly recommend this book. As someone who has been battling depression followed by intense anxiety I have used Joseph Luciani's, book as a tool to deal with panic episodes and negative thoughts. I have learned a lot about how to change the patterns that fuel worry and panic. It really is a life changing book that proves that you do have control over your thoughts and how to make the steps necessary to change your habits and behaviors that lead to panic and depressive episodes.

    Finally, An Effective Self-Help Book!

With 'Self-Coaching,' Dr. Luciani has finally provided us with therapeutic techniques that go above and beyond the usual trite self-help books. He addresses depression and anxiety, as well as a host of maladaptive personality styles, and presents effective and easy to use methods to address irrational and self-defeating thoughts and behavior. Case descriptions help illustrate each technique clearly, which can be applied to all readers who may at times deal with insecurity or a feeling of loss of control. This book is a must read for anyone who has ever felt unsure of themselves, and will provide you with the foundation to approach life with a clear state of mind. As a Ph.D. candidate in clinical psychology, I know that Self-Coaching has provided me and can provide any therapist or therapist-in-training with a wealth of tools to use in practice. With over 25 years of clinical practice, Dr. Luciani has weeded out what works for individuals in the everyday experience, and has generously shared these insights with us. In a world where psychology is overrun by masters level therapists with little training using ineffective and superficial techniques, it is good to know that a doctoral psychologist like Joseph Luciani is providing us with effective methods we can trust.

    A simple but profound idea

I found this book charming and well-conceived. Coaching oneself out of mild depression or anxiety is a great idea! Why rely on someone else to do it for you when you can do it yourself? It's a simple but profound idea. I don't think this approach will work for moderate to severe depression or anxiety, but it may supplement other treatments in those cases. This book cheered me up!

    Anxiety and panic--no more!

I purchased Dr. Luciani's book a month ago and found it simple and to the point. For many years I've been over-thinking my severe anxiety and panic problems. I just assumed the answer had to be more complex, more complicated. Self-Coaching taught me otherwise! I've been reading self-help for the past decade and consider myself somewhat of an authority on the subject. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this book to be the answer, but as they say, the proof is in the pudding. Forget what you think about anxiety and expensive remedies (therapy and the many tapes on anxiety I've accumulated included), buy this book and find out the simple truth about how to start feeling better. In just weeks, Dr. Luciani's technique of Self-talk taught me how to break my anxiety habit. I wish I could tell the world how well this program really, truly works!
