    A Real Oddity

Critics screamed bloody murder when Dylan put out this grab bag of out-takes. Now internet critics praise it highly. It really isn't that bad or good, just very uneven. The live Band tracks are very poorly recorded and some of the covers are strange. However, Days of 49 and Alberta #1 would not have to blush if they ever appeared on a Dylan best-of set. The whole CD is easier to listen to the Time Out of Mind, one of the critic's favorites. I give Self-Portrait between 2 1/2 and 3 stars.
