This little guide helped me understand self publishing, which can be a very confusing endeavor. I am so glad I found this resource!
Even if you decide not to publish with Outskirts Press, this book is great for clarifying industry lingo and giving an overview of the publishing process. Much of the information is available on their website, but it's a lot easier to understand and reference in book format.
They should have called this book SELF PUBLISHING FOR DUMMIES but maybe that title was already taken. Nevertheless, if you're looking for an easy and fast way to self-publish your book, this book will help you. Interior design, cover design, copyright, editing, ISBNs, distribution, printing, Amazon, Ingram -- you know -- all that confusing stuff you just wish someone else would do for you -- it's all here and it's all easy. There's a coupon in the back worth 10 times the cost of the book, so it's a no-brainer.
This book is just a pretty version of the publishing guidelines you can get for free on their website. Also note that I thought that I had done my homework and researched self publishing companies, so when I went with Outskirts Press I felt that I had made a good decision. Everything went well until I found out that their print quality for images was no better than an old copier that is running out of ink. The proofs that I approved were perfect and clear, but after I had paid for book copies what I got was substandard at best and I am told that it is the best that they can do. Save your money, do it yourself at a local digital printer. You will get better quality and less frustration.
very helpful if your interested in selfpublishing
I am happy to see the updated version of SPS on the market. What a great resource for self-publishing authors and those considering publishing. Revised and updated, I look forward to seeing this get out to readers.
