About the Author

Susan Joy Sager and is an artist, arts administrator, and the founder of ArtBiz, a center for the professional development of artists and craftspeople. The author of The ArtBiz Workbook, she has written articles for such leading crafts publications as the Crafts ReportWoodShop News.Over the past fifteen years, she has worked as an arts administrator with institutions such as the Program in Artisanry at Boston University, the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the Portland School of Art in Maine, and the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine. In addition, she was a member of the board of directors of the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle Maine, and a regional representative for the Maine Crafts Association.In 1993, Sager founded ArtBiz to facilitate the professional development of aspiring and professional artists and craftspeople through seminars and counseling services. To date, ArtBiz has provided guidance and information to more than 1000 artists and craftspeople. She has taught Art Biz seminars at institutions throughout the New England region, including: Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine; League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in Exeter, New Hampshire; the University of Maine; the Guilford Handcraft Center in Connecticut; and the Monserrat College of Art in Beverly, Maine. Sager now makes her home in Savannah, Georgia. The author is currently working on her next book for Allworth Press, Creative Careers in Crafts, which is scheduled for release in spring 2004.
