Author Bio:Ruth Heidrich received her Ph.D. in Health Management in 1993 and is the author of A Race For Life (Lantern Books, 2000) and The Race For Life Cookbook. She is a certified fitness trainer and holds three world records for fitness for her age group at the renowned Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas. She still actively competes in marathons and triathlons, having won more than 800 trophies and medals since her diagnosis of breast cancer in 1982 at the age of 47. With Terry Shintani, M.D., she co-hosts the radio show �Nutrition & You� on KWAI-AM in Hawaii. She is the founding member and past president of the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii and past president of the Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club. She has won eight gold medals in the Senior Olympics in Hawaii, Arizona, and Nevada.

If you want to read about an individual's personal experience in becoming a vegan and a marathon runner, then this is the book for you. It certainly didn't provide useful information for my purposes as I had expected--how I could become more fit.
I read this book this week. I already eat a plant-based diet, so that part was not new for me. However, I read as much as I can about this type of diet. The information about aerobic exercise is great. Everything she says is documented by her experiences and/or scientific research. I am 64 and found her book to be very inspiring to maintain my fitness lifestyle and continue running and strength training. I recommend this book.
She is a low-fat raw vegan athlete and 22 year cancer survivor of a double mastectomy and bone and lung cancer, she never did chemo or radiation. She was already very health conscious before her cancer diagnosis. Ruth says that the very essential info. about diet and it's effects on cancer is not readily available to cancer patients. She had to find out much of the information on her own. I highly recommend it to share with anyone you know with cancer, it's presented so well- a simple, clear story about her journey and it tells you what to do to be healthy, I absolutely love the way Ruth tells her story!
