You know how so many crochet patterns are cute for kids, but when it comes to the adult stuff it looks like something Jan Brady made at summer camp? Not this book. I started my first pattern out of here and it is a red halter top. So cute, and it goes fast! I am half way done and I have only been working on it for 2 days! Admitedly some of the patterns are confusing though, and the yarn they reccomend is very specific. But they do offer substitution yarn suggestions which is helpful.
First of this is really not for beginners. If you're an advanced beginner then this can be a project for you. As for the yarn types the author was describing is not found where I am from which is very sad. BUT if you can subsitute it with your fave yarn and cost effective you're good. I am so glad I got this as a gift when it was 75% off at the store in person. I got it for at least 5 bucks. :) Thank god it was there I've wanted it for months and now I finally have it and really looking forward to making my own crochet projects from this book. It pays to wait.
I am trying to make the bolero for a gift and have found the instructions to be vague if not actually inaccurate. With no stitch count to be able to double check against I have ripped it out repeatedly. I am to the point of seriously considering rewriting the pattern so I can finish the gift but there are also no schematics to be able to compare the directions to. I have been crocheting for over 30 years and have never had this much trouble with a pattern. The actual stitches are easy and there is a diagram to help you learn the stitch pattern if you have never used this stitch before. Overall I would never recommend this to a friend unless she was very experienced and liked a challenge.
I am really enjoying making the beautiful and sexy projects in this book. The instructions are fairly easy to follow and the final outcomes have been very pleasing to wear!! I recommend this for intermediate/advanced crocheters
You have to be intermediate level to use this book. Designs are not fashionable at all. My granny might wear such things when she was a bit younger. Some designs are not flattering. Would recommend to use mixed technique of crochet and knitting to get better results for some tops. It is a good source of patterns thought. They are very good schematically explained. Author considers bamboo yarn luxurious... I don't think so.
