Meet the Author

A native of Louisiana, Faith Hunter spent her early years on the bayous and rivers, learning survival skills and the womanly arts. She liked horses, dogs, fishing and crabbing much better than girly skills. She still does.

In grade school, she fell in love with fantasy and science fiction, reading five books a week and wishing she could "write that great stuff." Faith now shares her life with her Renaissance Man and their dogs in a Enclave of their own. Faith is working on a new series, which Roc will publish starting in the summer of 2009, and a role-playing game, called The Rogue Mage, based on Thorn.

    Interesting take on post-apocalyptic earth!

Faith Hunter takes everything we believe about the apocalypse an the end of the world and destroys it. In this universe the world didn't end - it entered an ice age in which Seraphs and demons and mages populate the earth. Thorn is a mage in hiding who must defeat the forces of evil (as cliche as it sounds) while staying hidden in the throng of humans. I read this book in a day and it left me wanting more. The action is non-stop. You'll want to loan this all of your friends! NOTE: This is the second book - read Bloodring first! You will miss a lot if the books are read out of order.

    Good, still not great.

In a way I liked it better than book one, I always do though. I get more attached to the characters.

I'm still not sure about the Seraphs, good? or bad? Angelic beings from scripture, or aliens who have taken over the planet pretending to be angelic beings from scripture. Hopefully Host will tells us, as it is the last book!

The author has a REALLY annoying habit of using two phrases often enough to make me not only notice but grow irritated. Excessive repetition is always annoying, but on top of that they're really cheesy sounding:

"...really sucks Habiel's pearly toes..." Sometimes augmented to "...really sucks Habiel's pearly scabrous toes..." Equally irritating either way.

    and

Ducky as in, "That's just ducky!" Sometimes the full phrase, sometimes just the word.

    *sigh*

I like it, but she keeps me from loving it with crap like that.

    Great sci-fi thriller

The end of the world didn¿t destroy all life on earth but it did kill billions of people and created a new life form neo-mages. They were born from humans in the first trimester of pregnancy when the first plague, pestilence and other things that changed the fetus¿s DNA. They are said to be soulless and when they die there will not go to the High Host but simply disappear. Earth is now in a mini-ice age and Seraphs watch over humanity and the new mages. It is forbidden for a seraph to mate with a mage.------------------ Thorn is a neo-mage who owns a jewelry store in Mineral City and was outed to the humans when she saved the town. She is put on trial but the charges against her are proved false and she goes free. The town is invaded by shadow spawn and she as well as others fight these evil beings. In the pit of the mountains of Trine, a Watcher is held captive by a demon as is a cherub and another seraph. An evil is coming out of the Trine and Thorn and her guardian must go down there to stop the dragon from escaping as well as rescuing the Watcher, Seraph and Cherub. It will take a miracle, even with a Seraph¿s help to win a battle without dying in the attempt.---------------------- Faith Hunter has written her take on what happen after the apocalypse the world she has created is unique and bleak. Humans fear Neo-Mages and most of them live in enclaves free from humanity and prejudice but the heroine is an independent solitary creature who needs her space and chooses to be free of the gilded prison. She is stronger than she knows and has the courage to fight evil even though she will be ignored by the High Hosts. SERAPHS is an action pick, exciting science fiction thriller.-------------- Harriet Klausner

    Good but it seemed rushed

This is the last book of a trilogy. I loved this series, the approach to a possible post apocalyptic world was unique and mentally engaging. The author has done a good job of character development without boring us with too many details of the aspects of their lives that don¿t pertain to the story.

This being said I felt that this book was rushed. Almost as if the author wanted to simply spill it all out and get the project over with so that she could work on something else. The plot had been building over the first 2 books and continued to do so for the first hundred or so pages of this one. Then suddenly it was as if the story was put on fast forward. There was easily enough material to take a 4th book to wrap up all of the story, or at the very least add another 100 pages to this book.

She still did a good job over all but a lot of questions were not answered and a lot of details seemed to get lost in the process. Hopefully there will be more books from this world which seems a very good setting for more great stories.

    Outstanding!

This is the next book after Bloodring. This series is an enjoyably wild ride with non-stop action!
