Overview

Sylvie was a pleaser. She did as her mother pleased, and she did as her fiancé pleased. Then she did as she pleased. Determined to take back her life, she heads to the hills instead of the altar on the day she’s to wed. Coming across a quaint, country inn with an intriguing name, she impulsively checks in. Peopled with an odd assortment of characters, the inn has clearly seen better days; even the regulars have a bit of wear on them. When Alex arrives and is strangely comfortable vacationing among the geriatric set, Sylvie is wary and tries to ignore him.

But Alex will not be ignored, pushing her buttons until she admits, if only to herself, that she's falling for him. Not until she's hired to manage the inn does she learn he's not the businessman he pretends to be, but a streetwise PI hired by her ex to find her. Adding insult to injury, he buys the inn and asks for her help in restoring it to its former glory, not an easy task with someone sabotaging their efforts.

Forced to work together, both learn about relationships, expectations, and acceptance--among family members as well as strangers who become like family.

Editorial Reviews

Stevie B.
"If you love eccentric characters, charming old inns, nature, and stories about finding yourself, characters who grow into someone they want to be, and of course romance, you will love the first half of this story. If you love conflict, an emotional tug of war, steamy scenes, and seemingly impossible situations, you will love the second half of the story. If you want an entertaining read, you will enjoy the whole book!" Manic Readers

Meet the Author

After reading women's fiction for many years, Joyce knew she wanted to tell stories of her own. As the mother of four grown daughters, she’s familiar with the problems women face finding love, raising children, and stepping back when necessary. All of her books place an emphasis on love and family dynamics. She is happiest when she’s secluded in her office creating new worlds and people to populate them. When she’s not taxing her brain with plot, structure, and grammar, she likes to sew, particularly quilts. When she really wants to rest her brain, she chills out in front of the TV and usually falls asleep. Please visit her website, http://www.joycedebacco.com for information about all her books.

I am absolutely amazed and blown away by Joyce DeBacco's work.

Reviewed by Molly E. for Readers Favorite

I am absolutely amazed and blown away by Joyce DeBacco's work. Her characters really gripped me and the plot line sucked me in instantly. I was swept away to the front of the Serendipity House, and I stayed there for the duration. There was no turning back once I started.

I truly enjoyed Sylvie's character. She was created normal. What do I mean by that? Well, for starters, some author's make their characters unrealistically, meaning they seem entirely too 'fakey.' Not so with Sophie's character. She had flaws, she had personality, and she had heart. All of those combined truly made a wonderful character.

With Sylvie, I could feel her struggles, her emotions, her thoughts. Much like Sylvie, I've always tried to please others before myself. Unlike Sylvie, I never acted on it; but Sylvie did, and the fun began, especially when she entered the doors of the inn.

Next comes Alex. Wow. I REALLY wanted to be Sylvie. Try as she might, she found him utterly attractive and irresistible. I totally wanted an Alex by the end of the story. His character was quirky and lovable and fit the part perfectly.

I highly recommend this awesome book. Sylvie, Alex, and all their new friends really make the story come to life for the reader. Mixed into the whirlwind of romance is a touch of mystery, making this the perfect fireplace read, on this getting-colder nights. Well done, Ms. DeBacco!

    Fantastic Read!

As the first reviewer stated, these characters are REAL! I loved the setting and the way Ms. DeBacco turned your thoughts to what she was trying to tell you.
I couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves "Cozy" reads. I just wish I had a wide porch with rockers.
I could see some things coming in the story and not so much the others!
Check it out! You won't be disappointed! And Oh Yes, I want an Alex too!
