Author Biography: Meet the Pros

Mary Griffin, Pam Hastings, Agnes Mercik, Linda Lee Vivian, and Barbara Weiland — America's top serger experts — tell you their special secrets.

In demand across the country and internationally, these women took time from their busy speaking schedules to show you their best, most innovative, and favorite serger tips, techniques, and inspirational garments, including piped jacket linings, thread blending choices, and more.

Mary Griffin knew exactly what she was going to write for Serger Secrets. As a Singer educator for the past nine years, she has made it her business to know what sewers like to serge, and she has the tips and hints to make everything easier to master.

Pam Hastings was the educational di- rector and spokesperson for Singer, one of the biggest sewing machine and serger companies in the country, before she switched to consulting. During her years at Singer, Pam wrote books and helped serger owners get the most from their machines. In Serger Secrets, she reveals the best methods for turning corners, as well as for making inside and outside curves. Pam also offers superb advice on buying, or upgrading to, a new serger. Agnes Mercik is truly an international star for Bernina of America. She teaches at venues as far-flung as Australia and Hong Kong. Agnes, well-known for her innovations, finds that her students are eager to duplicate fine details on their clothing proj-ects. Agnes created dozens of garments just for Serger Secrets. Linda Lee Vivian has taught many hundreds of sewers to love their Pfaff sergers through her Web site, classes, television appearances, commercial patterns, and numerous magazine articles. Even sewing machine dealers and Pfaff educators turn to her for advice and guidance. Barbara Weiland continues to delight her fans with creative serger techniques. Her most recent book, Secrets for Successful Sewing, was just reaching the bookstores when she was already at work on her contributions for Serger Secrets.
