Overview

A well-liked, respected, caring pillar of the community – or an outsider, socially inept and with a frightening appearance? Wearing many different masks, serial killers are among the most disturbing and dangerous violent criminals in existence.

They are individuals who have a history of multiple murders, normally committed over a long period of time and often with periods of apparent normality in between.

With their different appearances and motives serial killers are hard to identify and often much harder to understand. Yet they must be caught because the one unifying characteristic all serial killers share is their inability to feel remorse for their actions, and consequently their need to keep on killing...

Some profilers believe that serial killers don’t learn from their mistakes. This book explores the greed-factor that sets in and explains how killers come to think that the more they kill and get away with it, the easier it will become.

    I Also Recommend:

No less than 41 of our most terrifying monsters, some acting alone and some in pairs, stalk through the pages of "Serial Killers" by William Murray.

The text proves an excellent and engrossing rogues gallery, weaving spellbinding narratives in a voice of authority. Having begun to read, I couldn't put the book down, moving from cover to cover in a single sitting.

It displays a wealth of documentary photos and even copies of handwritten letters that seem to have come right out of police files, court records, or tantalizingly from the personal crime scene investigation experiences of its creator.

This book could be looked upon as a display of true case studies in criminal psychology or profiling. That is, if only even one fact could be independently verified by the reader.

Although the front flap of the jacket flatly states that this "is an expertly researched investigation", the book shows no bibliography at all--not even one single reference or footnote!

In direct denial of the jacket statement, the reader will discover a disclaimer printed prominently with the copyright and publication information. In part, it "excludes all liability to the extent permitted by law for any errors or omissions in this book and for any loss, damages, or expense (whether direct or indirect) suffered by a third party relying on information contained in this book".

Where this manuscript gets its facts is unknown. If they are facts is unknown.

Disappointingly, without verifiable doncumentation, this compelling and well written work can no more be relied upon than a collection of popular tales.

Good overview of several serial killets

There are about 20 short biographies of about 6 pages each for various serial killers. Some are well known and some lesser known. Good read for overview knowledge.

Purchased as gift for guy with morbid curiosity

I bought this as a gag gift. I thought it was so inappropriate for a Christmas gift that it would be funny. However, the person that received it could not wait to start reading it. This book is full of fascinating facts and images if Serial Killers fascinate you.
