Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5 The story of a dog, Licorice, who is selected, trained, and placed as a guide dog for a wheelchair-bound boy, Scott. A detailed index provides help in locating specific information. Two titles by Patricia Curtis, Greff: the Story of a Guide (Lodestar, 1982) and Cindy: a Hearing Ear Dog (Dutton, 1981), provide similar information about service dogs, respectively for visually- and hearing-impaired people. Their format is less fictionalized and more matter of fact, with photographs. The new title is illustrated with shaded pencil illustrations that capture the highlights but are fewer in number and less detailed than the photos of the two other titles. Susan Nemeth McCarthy, Arlington County Public Library, Va.
