Session 55: 1936-2000

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Campbell
The 20 songs that make up Session 55: 1936-2000 are re-recorded favorites associated over the years with Les Brown and his Band of Renown. Vocalist Lou Rawls and the band, led by Brown's son Les Brown Jr., recreate pop standards including "I'm Forever Blowin' Bubbles," "Ain't She Sweet," "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "That Old Black Magic," "Ol' Man River," and "Leap Frog." This Doc Hollywood release not only provides a fresh look at these classics, thanks in part to Rawls contribution, but also pays tribute to Brown's 65 years of performing.

    Don't Miss This One!!!....

This is, with out a doubt, the BEST NEW Big Band Release of the past decade! Sonically perfect, the scores are played with the smooth precision that those familiar with the Brown band have come to expect. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the late Skip Martin's chart on 'Ole Man River. This is done as a Flag Waver...just the way Skip wrote for the band in the mid-fifties. Two vocals each by Lou Rawls & Jane Monheit are tastefully done. Secret Love by Jane is done in a slight up-tempo reminicient of the style Nelson Riddle created for Sinatra. If you only buy one Big Band CD this year, it should be this one......

    Rave Reviews For Les Brown

This album is sensational! Produced by talented 10 time Grammy winner Al Schmitt, he works his magic again with proven music legend Les Brown and his featured guest vocalist Lou Rawls and Jane Monheit. Jane Monheit is currently soaring at #1 for the seventh consecutive week on Jazz Billboard charts. This CD is taking the music world by storm and is blowing off the record store shelves. Grab one of these musical masterpieces while you still can!
