    Outstanding, Practical Advice on Discipline

I have read several books on child-rearing and discipline, and this was one of the best. It offers simple, practical, effective advice on disciplining. I especially liked that the author went into detail about what kind of responses to expect from your children after you begin implementing his advice. If you find yourself continually repeating the same arguements with your children without getting any results, this is the book for you. This book will teach you how to deliver your message clearly and effectively and then, if necessary, how to enforce consequences effectively. This will cut out all the nagging, yelling and blaming that is the cause of so much family stress. It worked wonders in my home.

Advice that 'fits' both my husband and me

We bought the 1992 edition of this book when our daughter was 2-1/2. I've loaned and recommended it to several people. Now I'm back to buy the latest edition for our older daughter and son-in-law, who are expecting their first child next spring. They sometimes contrast their younger sister's behavior to that of others her age and asked our advice. My husband & I both had parents at far ends of the leniency-strict spectrum and knew our own styles differed just as greatly. We needed to achieve better unity for the sake of both our child and ourselves. We appreciate creativity and didn't want to stiffle it in our child, yet we knew it was important to instill a sense of responsibility at a young age and establish limits that could grow with our child. We don't claim to be perfect or have the perfect child, but we frequently get compliments from teachers, parents and even co-workers about how mature, fun and kind our daughter is. We owe much of our success to date to the insight we gained from this book.
