Meet the Author

Leland lives in the middle of a beautiful nowhere that is Colorado's San Luis Valley. Angelo, the world famous Border Collie, and Maggie, his black Lab philosopher mix, allow him to share their off-grid home. All three tolerate The Cat who does a merely adequate job of rodent control.

Leland has built the majority of the 1800 square foot all-solar home over almost four years, but is grateful to friends and neighbors who have helped with some of the heavy lifting. You can find him on facebook at www.facebook.com/LelandDirks.

Leland and Angelo have collaborated on several other works, including the best selling Angelo's Journey: A Border Collie's Quest for Home and a novel entitled Jimmy Mender and His Miracle Dog.

    Dog loves unite

Follow Leland as his trusty K9 companions show him the ropes after his death. If you had to stand trial for your past treatment of your furrbabies would you be found "lacking"? How about if the jury were those very furrbabies? The author has a humorous touch that can put a smile on your lips and tears in your eye. After reading Leland and Angelo's story you won't be able to deny that this writing team is one to keep an eye on. This is the second of Angelo's books I have read and they are a must read. This book really made me miss by babies but it also renewed my hope to be united with them in heaven.

    Great Book!

I was a bit confused at first, I wasn't so sure who was doing the talking, then I felt a bit dumb. hehe This is a cute story of love, just that simple, pure unconditional love. You'll really enjoy reading this and it does turn out very good.

    read this book!!

This book is like a gift to anyone who has ever been owned by a dog, who has ever looked into their dogs eyes and wished, just for one minute, they could. tell us how we are doing. The author takes you on a magical, mystical journey that draws you in from the very beginning. I laughed, I cried and I loved the ending, although, I would love a sequel as Angelo's "visits" continue.

    definately for dog lovers

What an interesting and different kind of dog story, it actually made me cry twice, one was related to my very first dog. This one is "the best" of Leland's books thus far. Even though it is fiction you leave it thinking "what if" and "maybe it could really happen". There's a lot of things that make you think about life and dogs and their place in it. I loved the inclusion of the Marines in the story. When a man dies we are carried along in with his confusion from his eyes and have a million questions too, the author does a wonderful way of writing to pull you in to this man's life and death along with the dogs he has known. I read it all in one sitting as I could not put it down! If you love dogs, you will surely love this story by the time you finish it.

Terrific book - a MUST read!!!!!

A very touching and believable book where the "human" reunites with all of the dogs that have passed through his life and is challenged and tested once again before crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I couldn't put this book down. I highly recommend this book to all who have ever loved and been loved by a dog - you will not be disappointed. I would certainly read more by this author. This book would make a great selection for a book club discussion and also would be helpful for those dealing with loss. Great for all ages.

    Comfort after lost of pet.

I read this book one week after my 13 1/2 yr Scottie died. It made me laugh and cry. The thought of my Annabelle taking care of me ( cooking) was funny. Can't wait to see her again.

┬┐When Imagination changes from hoping to knowing, it makes thing

“When Imagination changes from hoping to knowing, it makes things real.”

Seven Dogs in Heaven by Leland Dirks (and Angelo, of course) has a creative storyline that grabbed my attention right away. Just the title made me weepy. Losing dogs is such an emotional subject. But this story was an uplift even if it could be emotional at times. There are lessons. Real life lessons that if we pay attention we will learn something. I really enjoyed the unusual path the author chose to take us on.

Seven Dogs in Heaven made me laugh and cry. At different times, of course. So many waves of feelings flooded my brain. It’s an emotional read that was very satisfying. This book really makes you think and inspires it’s reader to do better and to be better.

The unconditional love of a dog is a beautiful thing. I appreciated that this story was written from the perspective of a man and his dog/dogs. I would highly recommend this touching escape and the bonus short Christmas story at the end.

    Quote ~

“Because we need each other. We complete each other. Duty works both ways. Love needs a beloved. Loyalty needs two to be loyalty. Fidelity is nothing without someone to be faithful to. Every dog needs a human, and every human needs a dog.”

    I loved this book!

I absolutely loved this book, it is so original ! Really made me stop and think how i would be judged by my beloved animals. And if i will see them in heaven. I can't wait to read some of his other books, i just wish it would have been longer. I have ordered one for a friend that recently lost her dog as well.
I lost my baby last month and i can only pray and hope we will see each other again. I really enjoyed this though, and would highly recommend not only to anyone that recently lost their fur baby or just wanted a good read about our beloved dogs.

    Teen Audience Recommended

This book is extremely simplistic and not for the reader who is looking for something more complex. While the writer could have done so much more with the subject, which appears to be a dog's version of the Five People You Meet in Heaven, he chose to keep it simple, possibly in keeping with the thought processes of a dog? The ending was a letdown.
