Overview

"When the odds were stacked against us, and there have been many times when the great experiment we call America could have and should have failed, did God intervene to save us?"That question, posed by authors Chris and Ted Stewart, is the foundation for this remarkable book. And the examples they cite provide compelling evidence that the hand of Providence has indeed preserved the United States of America on multiple occasions. Skillfully weaving story vignettes with historical explanations, they examine seven instances that illustrate God's protecting care. Never, at any of these critical junctures, was a positive outcome certain or even likely. Yet America prevailed. Why?"No man is perfect," write the authors. "And neither is any nation. Yet, despite our weakness, we are still, as Abraham Lincoln said, the best nation ever given to man. Despite our faults, this nation is still the last, best hope of earth." In short, God still cares what happens here. This reassuring message is a bright light in a world that longs for such hope.

Editorial Reviews

Frontpage Magazine

"Terrific...Extremely engaging...the Stewarts do a masterful job of setting the stage of not only why the odds were stacked against the outcome we take for granted but also in reminding us of what was at stake.  Each chapter, it could be argued, is as good a one-chapter treatment of a momentous time as you are likely to find anywhere—particularly setting the stage for the Civil War."—Frontpage Magazine

What is it about this nation that would justify His intervention in the ways that have been presented in this book?

Could it be that America represents something important to God?

Though it's daunting to attempt to answer such questions, may we suggest two plausible explanations:

First, America is the wellspring of liberty and freedom on this earth.

Second, it has been the repository of--and an example of--certain virtues that, if emulated, would bring more happiness, prosperity, and well-being to all.

    I Also Recommend:

This book was not only ispirational, but I learned a great deal about certain episodes in our nation's history that I never knew before.

I learned so much about U.S. history from this book! It was well researched, well written, and compelling. I found myself wondering what in the world did my history teachers in high school even teach? I learned more from reading this book (and books like it) than I ever learned in the U.S. history classes I had in high school and even college! It also gave me a deeper appreciation for our country and a hope for its success in a time when there are many uncertainties about the direction America is going. Lastly, as a religious person, I definitely believe in miracles and that God is indeed involved in this country and has guided it through the years. The interesting thing though, in every case, this book clearly demonstrated that just because men like Columbus and Abraham Lincoln felt they were called and chosen to do certain things as inspired of God, does not mean they had it easy. In fact the opposite is true! Each and every miracle discussed in the book was wrought only after a very long and difficult journey and what seemed like an impossibility. God does direct the affairs of men, but that does NOT mean it will be easy. The process is a refining one and after we struggle and learn and grow and seek diligently to do His will, he steps in and mercifully pulls us through.

    Inspirational

This was just the pick me up I needed. The local and world news has been depressing and this is a reminder that even when things look bad and are bad that divine providence is concerned with the outcome of our nation and the world.

I appreciated how it was written. Going back and forth from a story to factual reports kept it engaging so even 5th graders can read it. I imagine even most history buffs will learn something new, or at least think about the context of historical events in a new way.

This is one that I'm recommending to everyone to read. Even if you don't believe in God and miracles, you have to admit these are some amazing coincidences to favor of the chaos theory.

I can't wait for it to come out in paperback so I can share it with others.

Recommend this book to the highest degree.

Fascinating! I have learned things about America that I had never know. I have come to appreciate more fully where this country has come from and what a great and hopeful place it is to live in. This book is worth every minute spent in its pages.
