Sew Modern Baby: 19 Projects to Sew from Cuddly Sleepers to Stimulating Toysby Angela Yosten
This how-to book, Sew Modern Baby, by Angela Yosten, helps you play a pivotal role in your child’s early cognitive development. It features 19 projects for baby and mom in high-contrast colors with captivating patterns and textures to spark a baby’s natural curiosity. There are patterns for animal rattles, building blocks, quilts, burp cloths, and even an interactive play gym. Projects are designed for beginner and intermediate sewers with clear step-by-step instructions.
Angela offers a few quilts (we especially love Playing Jacks), as well as adorable soft toys (Ollie the Owl is a must-see) and some practical and pretty things for moms. The Nursing Cover-Up and Carryall Bag are each quick to sew and would make you any mom’s new BFF.
Our fave project, though, is the Play Gym. Some of us remember the exorbitant amount of moolah we plunked down for a play gym made with yucky fabrics and dull toys. Angela gives us easy-peasy instructions for covering arches with pipe insulation and plastic conduit tubing. And she’s designed adorable toys to be crafted and hung from loops sewn into the arch covers. It’s finished off with a pretty quilted mat featuring graphic numbers. Makes us wish we were babies again just so we can play more!
