About the Author

Laura Zander is the cofounder and co-owner of Jimmy Beans Wool (jimmybeanswool.com), which was named by Inc. magazine as one of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the US for four years (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012), and is the first official yarn supplier to the US Olympic snowboarding and freeskiing teams. Zander was named one of ten national winners of Ernst & Young's Entrepreneurial Winning Women for 2011. She is also the author of Knit Red (Sixth&Spring Books, 2012), which she conceived and wrote as part of her Stitch Red initiative to support The Heart Truth® Foundation to raise awareness and funds to fight heart disease. Laura resides in Reno, NV.

In this follow-up to Knit Red, luminaries of the sewing and quilting worlds present projects intended to inspire women to take better care of their hearts. The list of contributors reads like a who's who of the sewing world, with popular designers such as Denyse Schmidt, Amy Butler, Kaffe Fassett, and Anna Maria Horner supplying projects. A wide variety of styles and techniques is represented, from apparel sewing to accessories to quilting. The majority of the projects are small and simple, but some, like Marcia Harmening's stunning appliquéd Queen of Hearts quilt, are for more experienced crafters. Patterns are included as needed. VERDICT Though the heart health tips and stories can be a little hokey and forced, the message is a good one, and the variety of projects in the collection make it an excellent value.
