Library Journal
Beginning sewing projects can be plain and dull. Bara, who writes a sewing column for the popular Design*Sponge website, presents a collection of projects that require minimal sewing skills but deliver maximum excitement and charm. The projects, which include garments, home decor, and gifts, are simple yet chic, and the step-by-step directions include ample illustrations. Although these are beginners' projects, Bara doesn't shy away from introducing more advanced techniques or slightly intimidating fabrics such as vinyl. Beginning sewers looking for projects beyond pillowcases and simple rectangular tote bags will enjoy this charming collection.

Stylish patterns for learning new skills

This book offers projects for the very beginner to intermediate-level sewists. For beginners, the book starts with how to sew a straight line by hand or with machine, and for those who have mastered that skill, there are instructions for how to insert zippers, shirring, and elastic, and how to quilt. Plus, there are tips on how to work with different kinds of fabrics. The author makes all these skills seem approachable for beginners like me, and there are construction diagrams and illustrations to aid in explaining too.

The clothing patterns are all designed so they are based off the wearer's measurements, meaning anyone of any size, from petite to plus-size, can wear the projects.

Additionally, the styling of the projects is really well-done: think classic designs with a modern and slightly feminine (but not sickly-sweet) vibe. The housewares and quilts are suitable for almost any decor.

Overall, this is a great book for beginning to intermediate sewists who are looking for stylish projects with which to learn and apply new skills.

    Beach reader

This is a great book for those of us new to sewing. I had a little experience with sewing, less than the basics. So far I have made 3 skirts and was very pleased with the results. I own several other sewing books that I had hopes of pushing me forward in learning to sew and none are equal to this book. I can not wait to move forward in my next project. I hope we dont have to wait long for a sequel.

    Great on Nook for iPad

This book has so many fun projects that you wont know where to begin. Not only is this book a great read, but the instructions are clearly outlined. I have been having so much fun making the cute and quirky items in this book. Also, a lot of the projects make great Christmas gifts are almost fool proof!
