Most parents are woefully unprepared to talk with their children

Most parents are woefully unprepared to talk with their children about sex. In addition to feeling embarrassed, parents don’t want to think of their children as sexual beings any more than children want to think about their parents that way. Add the pressure of a mistaken belief that everything can and should be covered in a single discussion at just the right age, and it’s no wonder parent-child communications on this important subject break down. Parents need sound information and concrete guidance from an experienced professional, and that’s exactly what they’ll find in The Sex-Wise Parent by Janet Rosenzweig.

This book should be required reading for every parent as soon as a child is born. Divided into four parts, The Sex-Wise Parent begins with a loving call for action, explains all of the biology parents need to know to promote healthy sexuality, a realistic look at the dangers in our society, and sound advice on what to do when problems arise. Dr. Rosenzweig includes a state-by-state list of where to report child abuse, two full pages of online resources, extensive references supporting the facts provided in each chapter, and an index to make all of the information in the book easily accessible. Sprinkled throughout the book are special notes to adults who were victimized as children providing needed comfort, perspective, and reassurance.

Every parent should read this book!
