Charged with a sensual language not seen since Henry Miller, Amerika's alchemical mix of grunge rockers, riot girls, reality hackers, expatriates and guerrilla artists opens up an erotic world lost in a theater of cruelty.

    Sexy but Smart

I bought this book awhile ago and have been meaning to actually find the time to read it! I finally dove in and think it could be Amerika's best book. I enjoyed the Joycian language play and pomo collateral damage of his first novel, The Kafka Chronicles, but here the narrative is more direct. I found it very much like Henry Miller's best work where the character, an oversexed male, finds his alternative Other, both in himself and outside himself. Some of the language is brilliant, sort of a Henry Rollins punk edge wit enough cyberlines to bring in the sci-fi audience too. There's one scene where the protagonist, Mal, is locked in a room with a virtual version of Madonna (yes, that Madonna) and the ensuing results are incredibly funny yet also scary (locked up in a room with Madonna?). Check it out; it's worth it.
