If it ain't on the menu, keep it covered up!

Let's get real. You wanna look good. If you're like most girls, you want the attention of the opposite sex. And unless you've been living under a rock, you know that looking sexy is supposedly key to being today's "it" girl.

But have you stopped to consider that you're advertising with every outfit you put on? It's all marketing. Your clothes tell the world (including those visual creatures called guys) who you think you are.

Just because skin is in doesn't mean you have to let it all hang out to look great. Sexy Girls is all about helping you understand your body and how guys look at it. (And they are looking!) It explores why God cares about what's in your closet and helps you make good decisions on style that will keep you, your parents, and God all satisfied.

Hayley DiMarco has a passion for producing relevant material for teens. She is the founder of the Hungry Planet think tank, the author of Mean Girls, and the coauthor of Dateable and Marriable.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Current female fashions show a lot of skin. What's the big deal? DiMarco states that hormone-driven males assume that what girls show is "on the menu." Girls need to discover their real image-the one that God has in mind. Simple decisions about being artsy or preppy and answers to dilemmas-I like it when guys look at my chest-will help reveal individual style and sexual comfort level. Heavy makeup, tattoos, and piercings can also be misleading and create an unwanted turn-on to guys. Armed with this new understanding and a commitment and confession of sin, girls will be able to move beyond this tease image toward holiness. To reinforce their new PR packaging and create a cute new look, DiMarco then suggests having a "Dressing Party" to examine, discard and layer clothes that are too sexy. DiMarco uses hip language and slang such as "horn puppy" and "wannabe" to convey her message about "too hot" clothes, but Bible quotes and references reinforce her conservative Christian position. Although the cover photo shows a sexy blond in a red tube top, there are no other color illustrations. Some chapter introductions have black color bands that seem to accent the moral message. "Dear Hayley" advice letters and quirky facts-the very first hair dryers were adapted vacuum cleaners-add interesting impact. DiMarco makes it quite clear that sexy clothes and sex belong in the marriage relationship only. Church libraries might want to add her book to their collections. 100% accurate; many women need this book, too

i'm a mother of five daughters, the oldest being twelve, and also the oldest of five sisters. i got this book in the hopes that it would help my sisters and me steer our girls in the godly direction of modesty. it is utterly fantastic! the whole premise of the book being that the way a girl dresses is her advertising campaign to the world is dead on accurate. most grown women don't even recognize this truth. hayley speaks in a friendly, straight forward fashion that really gets you thinking. she's completely honest and frank about what boys & men are thinking about us, about how you can't pick & choose who's attracted to you, about being walking porn by the way we choose to dress, about how you simply can't change the way males are but must accept it & behave appropriately. i love how she emphasizes being respectful of males who don't want the distractions our immodesty can be to them. also, she encourages girls not to shy away from femininity, but rather to embrace it in a healty, godly way.

i found the book a tad mature for my girls just yet, but it's on the shelf waiting for them to grow up a bit more. it's definitely helped me in our continual talks on modesty and how God wants them to respect their bodies, which begin at about 3 or 4. (thank you polly pocket dolls, for bringing up the issue!)

also, i gave it to my divorced sister, who just doesn't understand the concept of her advertising campaign. she's always complaining about how guys focus so much on her appearance and say things like, "you're HOT!" right off the bat instead of looking deeper. truth is, it's the message she's sending and they are responding appropriately to what she's screaming at them. unfortunately, i don't think she's taken the time to read it yet. but i'm not giving up! and i'm buying another copy to replace the one she never returned.

mothers, women, teen girls - get this book!!! i can't recommend it highly enough.

    A Hot Cover

Regrettably, most 'sexy girls' would not consider reading this book unless it had this kind of cover. The cover is appropriate.

    Selling Modesty ...

For me, as a 20-something mom of two young daughters and freelance writer, I believe that modesty is a much-needed topic of discussion. However, Hayley DiMarco's book 'Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot' seems to contradict its message at first glance. Why? Because essentially, it's a book whose cover uses immodesty to sell the topic of modesty. DiMarco educates readers on how men are visual creatures and that showing a tiny bit of cleavage or mid-drift causes their imaginations to wonder. Yet, what about the cover of this book? Does it not have the ability to tempt those men who may stumble across it at the Christian bookstore? What about those fathers who see it in their daughter's rooms? Or brothers who see their sisters reading it? Or the youth pastors and male editors who are called to promote it to their female audiences? If men are as sex-crazed as DiMarco argues, then what is she and her publisher doing adding to the problem by going with this image on the cover? Do they think that only women will see it? DiMarco points to how the Bible says there shouldn't be even a hint of sexual immorality among us. I don't know about you, but in light of the cover, I read this with a puzzled expression on my face. The message is good, but isn't the cover featuring a woman's torso in too tight and too little clothes at least a hint of sexual immorality? So while readers are told that 'God makes it clear, we can't play around with our sexiness. It's a powerful tool that should be used for good, not for fun. God has a purpose for everything. Even your sexuality. And that purpose is the marriage bed. Any other sex or hinting at sex is out of bounds. In fact, it's sinful. 'Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality' (Galatians 5:19). Your sexiness isn't something to be played with or taken lightly' (p. 51), it's okay to present sexuality on the cover? Shouldn't the author and publishers of this book also be held to the standard they are offering in the book's pages -- that sexual immorality should not be even hinted at? Or are they the exception? Is it okay for them to grab attention and sell books by having a cover that hints at sexual immorality? In short, while many argue the cover supports the book, I see it as going directly against DiMarco's message. You have to wonder how an author who believes so strongly in modesty would stand back and let this picture serve as the cover.
