Your books are fantastic! I love the fact that they are Christian based, I love the way you write!

This is the first book of Cecelia Dowdy’s that I have read. The story was interesting and kept me wondering what would happen next, as well as what would be the ultimate outcomes for Jason and Toni. They come from different worlds. The one thing they have in common is their love for baking pastries. Toni’s Shades of Chocolate pastry shop reminds Jason of the shop where his mother taught him to bake and where his love of baking grew and blossomed. Jason is a devoted Christian, but Toni tends to push people away when they mention anything about church or spiritual matters. She has some honest questions about God’s love and His goodness that she has never found answers for. Events in the story cause her to question even more. Her honest search is a key ingredient of the book. The reader has to wonder if his or her faith would withstand all that happens to Toni. I recommend this book for the inspirational, romantic, and suspenseful aspects. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

SHADES. OF. CHOCOLATE by Cecelia Dowdy. A new author for me and a delightful one, (especially before breakfast). A delightful mix of dreams, romance and mystery. Believing and waiting on God for his direction. For Toni and Jason, it is the love of the bakery, mixing up the next tantalizing delight. For both it was happy times when they were young, being in the bakery. To present, can they find love for them, and love of what they enjoy doing. Looking forward to reading more by this author.

Toni’s best memories from childhood are working at her aunt and uncle’s bakery. Now she has inherited the bakery and made it her own. Jason Matthews has recently lost his mother and, in accordance with her will, is now working with his estranged father. Needing time away, he takes a three-month vacation. When he walks into Shades of Chocolate, he is reminded of his mother’s first bakery. When Toni needs help, he jumps right in, grateful for the chance to bake again. I really enjoy Cecelia Dowdy’s writing! There is an ease to her writing that makes the story flow. I was pulled in at the beginning and didn’t want to stop reading. The characters felt real and their struggles were relatable. The romance was sweet and the elements of suspense and mystery were well done. Toni and Jason were easy to root for! I wanted things to work out for them. Their relationship developed in such a sweet way. I loved seeing their individual growth as well. I was very happy with the way everything worked out! I think (ok, I know) I like pastries and baked goods a bit too much, because I absolutely love the setting of a bakery! I felt like I was there. I could see the display cases and smell all the yummy treats. When I read the next book in the series, I think I’ll head over to a local bakery and read there while I eat something sweet. I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Shades of Chocolate was a very pleasant surprise! I had not read any of Cecelia Dowdy's books, but that is something with will soon be rectified. Shades of Chocolate is a sweet romance, pun intended. I love the way Dowdy creates characters I can relate to. Her heroine, Toni, is much like me. Independent, tough but fair with a guarded heart. I really enjoyed seeing her open up to the hero Jason. Now talk about a fine hero. He's kind and good-looking and a dedicated Christian...something Toni struggles with. He also has lost his mother in the past year and he has problems with his dad. It is so refreshing to see how he works through those problems. If you're looking for a sweet romance with a splash of danger thrown in, this book is for you! Cecelia Dowdy provided me with a copy of Shades of Chocolate, but I plan to buy the print copy and will be buying her other book in the series, Raspberry Kisses.

Oh, my. We are talking shades of deliciousness. Can you imagine walking into a bakery, taking a deep breath and smelling all that chocolate? That unique bakery is one of the main characters in this book. Toni and Jason come from very different backgrounds, but do have the love of baking in common. Jason needs to escape his father’s heavy handedness while Toni needs to escape her childhood and ex-fiance’. They join forces when Toni needs help in the bakery and Jason needs baking therapy. Will this be only an interval of a couple months or will they give into their hearts and figure out how to have a long distance bakery romance? Thank you so much, Cecelia, for your Bakery Romance series. I’ve enjoyed both Raspberry Kisses and Shades of Chocolate. I’m definitely looking forward to Sweet Dreams, the third in your series. ***A special thank you to the author for providing a review copy.*** Reviewed by sunny island breezes.

Jason Matthews is working through his anger and loneliness after his mom dies. His father wants him to learn more about the corporate side of their baking business, instead of working in the kitchen baking. He travels, acquiring family owned bakeries. He decides to take a vacation and spends it in the town of Blue Spring. Toni Brown owns a bakery, Shades of Chocolate, in Blue Spring. She is struggling to move on after being hurt by her fiancée. She is struggling with her faith in God. When Jason shows up just when she needs help with vandalism, can she trust Jason to be there for her? Can she learn to rely on God? Jason is drawn to Toni. She’s been hurt, doesn’t trust God, and has been receiving threatening phone calls. Jason wants his father’s approval, which doesn’t include working in a bakery. He enjoys his time with Toni, but when he has to go back home, can they forge a future together? He wants to show her God loves her and that going through the hard times can be made easier by leaning on God. Everybody deals with grief and anger differently. Can God heal Jason’s relationship with his father before it’s too late? Will Toni learn to lean on her faith in God when bad things happen? This book was a great read. Readers will be able to relate to the characters’ struggles and questions about God to find a closer relationship with God for themselves. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was my second book by Cecelia Dowdy and like her first in the Bakery Romance Series it was a pleasure to read. It was a complete book full of joy, faith, laughter, suspense, sorrow and love. What more could you want it a book. The main character Toni had inherited a bakery which she ran with another woman who had a family emergency and had to leave. During a busy time, an unexpected handsome stranger, Jason, walks in, steps in and gives her a helping hand. Toni is from a poor, abusive past who doesn’t totally believe there is a loving God. Jason also is struggling with his past after losing his mother and has a very poor relationship with his father and his taking a three-month break from the family’s bakery business. During this three-month break is when he steps into Toni’s bakery which is a flash back from his mother’s first bakery. As he is there, he feels that he is needed there for some reason and stays helping Toni. As they are working together, they both go through a growing process in their relationship, troubles that effect Toni and her shop and learning to trust the Lord. Even though the book is part of the Bakery Romance Series it can be read as a stand-alone. It was given to me for an honest review and I highly recommend reading it. Once again, Ms. Dowdy delivers a book with a wonderful story line and sprinkled with scripture.

This is the second book in the Bakery Romance series. It definitely can be read as a standalone, but I certainly do recommend the first book in the series also. The author has combined faith, romance and some mystery and written a story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Once again, the author has written a story that pulled me into the lives of the characters and kept me reading to see what was going to happen next. This is another book by this author that I do recommend, and I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.
