Overview

When Patrick is found dead in his apartment, Katelina is left in a vacuum of uncertainty with no leads. Then the enigmatic Jorick appears. In a single sweep he turns over the rocks of reality to reveal what hides underneath in the shadows; monsters that she thought only existed in horror movies.

Trapped in a nightmare, Katelina is forced to accept the truth of vampires; vampires who want her dead for her association with Patrick. Jorick saves the day, but what should she do when her hero turns out to be one of the monsters? Can she really trust - and even love - someone who isn't human?

Caught between light and dark, Katelina and Jorick must travel down a path of mystery and terror as their pasts are slowly revealed and their passions ignite, in a world that smells like blood and tastes like fear.

Book 1 of the Amaranthine series.

Meet the Author

Joleene Naylor is the author of the glitter-less Amaranthine series, a world where vampires aren't for children. As a compliment to the novel series, she has also written several short stories, including the Vampire Morsels collection, and has plans for an Amaranthine Encyclopedia.

In her spare time, Joleene is a freelance book cover designer and for-fun photographer. She maintains several blogs full of odd ramblings, and occasionally updates her website at JoleeneNaylor.com. She and her husband live in Villisca, Iowa near the famous - and reportedly haunted - "axe murder" house. Though she enjoys the paranormal, she refuses to invite the ghosts for a visit. Between the cats, dogs, and turtles, her house is full enough.

I am a big PNR and UF fan. I have read all the big names out there. I had never heard of Ms. Naylor, but I happened to be browsing my kindle and thought "what the hey, give it a try!" I was left with my mouth hanging open at how amazing this story was. And by amazing, I mean from the stand point of a girl who likes her smexy heroes and fast paced action. The action was non-stop and fun. Jorick is to die for. She gives just enough of his motivation and background to make me want more. I can't wait for the next book. I feel Ms. Naylor deserves to be on the shelves right next to Ms. Harris, Ms. Frost and Ms. Garey

Easy to get involved in. This take of vampires doesn't sparkle, but isn't overy dramatic either. This is listed as not being for tweens, it's got some questionable content for teens as well. If you monitor what your kids watch on tv, just read it first. It's not too detailed on the "sexy" parts but it doesn't just skip them either. A nice light read with some great supplements available for the characters you want to know more about!

Its a good read with a well done storyline and characters. Unfortunately I have to agree with majority of the characters in the book- whats special about Katalina, one of the two main characters? She doesn't seem to be exceptionally smart, funny, witty, pretty or physically capable. Just whiney. For that reason alone I wont continue the series.

I loved it, i felt the story line was very well thought out and suspenseful, it kept me intrigued. This author is very talented and can really pen a book. If you are looking to read a very well structured book by someone who has a firm grasp of the English language and can compose a sentence that is grammatically correct, you will undoubtly love this book. If you are just looking for an average read with a lot of vampire erotica, this is definately not for you. I highly recommend it! LB

This book isnt 600 pgs like some if the reviews are saying. Its 253 and thats with a chapter of the next book included. I really didnt like this book. The main female character katelina was constantly being attacked and hurt by vampires throughout the whole book. It was monotonous to say the least. She was the only main character that wasnt a vampire. I dont know why but this book really got on my nerves. Wont be reading the next book thats for sure. And i usually really like books like this.

The book was not bad for a freebie. I was pleasantly surprised. All though I must say the heroine was brain dead. This character was not the brightest blub in the package. A little of this character went a long way. That said the other characters were interesting as well as the story line however I just could not read past the 2nd book with heroine. She just drove me nuts.

Awesome book! Joleene Naylor is a superb writer as she brings her characters to life threatening heights again and again. I love how every time you think the characters are safe something else shakes them up. it is a never ending battle of intrigue. In this first Story In Joleene's Amaranthine Series Katelina and Jorick meet for the first time when her lover Patrick is brutally murdered and Jorick is the only one who seems to be willing to give Katelina any answers. They are attacked by a band of men with fangs and abnormal strength. who are these people and what did they do to poor Patrick? and more importantly what do they now want with Katelina and Jorick? Katelina is pulled into a supernatural world not of her choosing but she finds that underneath all the horror and chaos there is one who would do anything for her and stop at nothing to see to her well being and she likes that more then she wants to admit to herself. Joleene is supernatural genius and I can't wait to devour the rest of the stories in the series! which I am about to do right now...lol...if you haven't read these books I suggest you hurry up and start!

Enjoyed it so much I had to get the rest of the books in the series as well as all the short stories. It was a fast paced, non-stop action story. The characters were great and Ms. Naylor did a great job of making you want more. On to the next book....
