Shades of Purple

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Tracy E. Hopkins
On their U.S. debut, Norwegian pop duo M2M make Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears sound old hat. That's because 15-year-old Marion Ravn and 16-year-old Marit Larsen leave the vocal calisthenics to older and more skilled pop divas like Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. Instead, on SHADES OF PURPLE, M2M sing with a refreshingly wholesome naïveté and sound, well, the way teenage girls are supposed to. Some may recall the upbeat and uplifting "Don't Mess with My Love," which wisely advocates that girls not feel pressured into sex, from the Pokémon soundtrack. Similarly, the remaining tracks, several of which were written by Backstreet Boys collaborator Max Martin and ...

Some may recall the upbeat and uplifting "Don't Mess with My Love," which wisely advocates that girls not feel pressured into sex, from the Pokémon soundtrack. Similarly, the remaining tracks, several of which were written by Backstreet Boys collaborator Max Martin and Spice Girls producer Matt Rowe, address the pressing concerns of teenage girls. The innocent "Dear Diary" finds the girls reflecting on a crush who finally calls, and the lushly acoustic "The Girl in Your Dreams" tells the classic tale of unrequited love. Bad girls they aren't, but on "Don't Mess with My Love," the duo politely chastise a two-faced friend for trying to nab one of their beaus. M2M is teen pop at its best.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
M2M's debut album Shades of Purple features more of the sweet yet down-to-earth pop that made their single "Don't Say You Love Me" so successful. Marit Larsen and Marion Ravn write many of their own songs (a rarity in the teen-pop world), and the confessional lyrics on tracks like "Don't Mess With My Love," "Do You Know What You Want," and "Dear Diary" add a healthy dose of reality to the album's slick production and the girls' somewhat sugary voices. Overall, Shades of Purple is a strong debut from a young group that still sounds fresh and innocent -- also something of a rarity in teen pop.
Entertainment Weekly - Arion Berger
...some of the most incontrovertible pop since ABBA, thanks to a power lineup of writers and producers.

    Shades of Purple

Well, like it says, I dn't have this yet, but I do thank barnes and noble for providing clips, becuase they give you an idea f the songs, even if they are only 30 seconds. I am more favmiliar with their second album The Big Roon, because my friend has multiple times braged about it, but I don't mind. n the debut, there are mostly slow songs, but what do i knowm I haven't even heard all of the clips. 1. Don't Say You Love Me- If you looked M2M or Pokemon soundtrack up, you would think that, if you agree with me that Pokemon is rather boring, this song would be very kiddy and weird. Well, considering that Marit and Marion were only 15 and 16 when this album came out, this song is ne of the best on this whole album. It's really one f the best I've heard by M2M so far. It's like a really sweet, charming song. 2. The Day You Went Me- This song is pretty good too. It is describing-I think- about a crush that goes away. It is really rather sweet -just like the first song- and so this song is pretty good. 3. Girl In Your Dreams- Okay, I haven't listened to this yet, excpet maybe ten seconds f it, s I can't really describ ethe song. 4.Mirror Mirror- This song is awesome! Having heard it on the radio, yes, you guessed it, multiple times, I fell in love with this song. It is about how the girls are like, why wont this stupid mirror tell me what i want to hear? Those aren't the exact words, but you get my meaning. 5. Pretty Boi- I haven't heard much of this song, or at least I cant rememember. It must have been good. 6. Give A Little Love- I liked this song. It's like, you guessed it, giving a little love! 7. Everything You Do- This song rocks! It's slow, but good. 8. Don't Mess With My Love- I will give you a description of this song, but I think yu've heard it fromn the critics. It's saying dson't mess with people that are in love, or som ething like thsat, I've just listened to the critics. 9. Dear Diary- This song is overpowering. It is really good. One of the best one the whole album. I can't even descripe this song. 10. Do You Know What Yu Want- This song, is well, uh, I haven't listened to the clip. 11.Smiling Face- Get u infrmed when I listen 12. Same hear 13. And Hear I have 2 admit that this album wasn't as good as the second album, but hey they're 18 and 17 n that album, and this album blew me away. Now I have one problem. Which one to get?

    M2M

M2M is different from Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, and more. They write there own songs. I talk to Marion Raven by e-mail she says, ''It's not Ravn or Raevn. It's RAVEN. Like the bird.'' She also told me that their new album, ''The Big Room'' was named that for 2 reasons. 1. 95 percent of it was written by M2M. 2. It was recorded in The Big Room. Marion told me not to give out her e-mail because she and Marit Larsen have a few thousand -e-mails to read.

    EXCELLENT!!!

A really good CD. M2M are more talented then a lot of teen singers out there, yet they don't get as much credit as they deserve.

    I LUV M2M!!!!!!!!!

I first learned about M2M from the Pokemon the movie soundtrack. I loved 'Don't Say You Love Me'. Then I heard my cousin's CD of 'Don't Say You Love Me' and 'Mirror Mirror' and then, while listening to songs for the Pepsi Choose Your Music CD, I found 3 M2M songs and added them to my CD. They were 'Girl in Your Dreams', 'Give a little Love', and another song. I can't remember it right now.

    Nice Songs, Nice Girls!

Heh, what can I say? The songs are good and the girls are hot. I usually listen to Korn or Limp Bizkit that kind of music, but M2M is, well, excellent!

    THIS ALBUM ROCKS!

I do not usually like love songs, but these girls have a magical talent. I prefer artisits who play their own music, and they really know how to harmonize! I totally love this album, OH YEAH!
