highly recommend!

Leona DeRosa Bodie powers the plot along smoothly. Her clever twists and intertwining of subplots kept the pages flying. I couldn't put SHADOW CAY down, had to read it in one sitting and stayed up to 2 a.m. just to finish it.  It's such a great book that every time I thought I had it figured out, another jolt sent me reeling. Although this fast and furious thriller kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page, I found myself unexpectedly laughing  in certain spots. This was truly a great read and in the wee hours of morning I realized SHADOW CAY fired off the movie projector in my mind. I can see this suspense novel as a  major motion film!

I highly remcommend this novel

Leona Bodie is a new master storyteller. I found Shadow Cay hard to put down, once I started it. The characters are lifelike and made me care. Big bucks and bigger dreams entwine in a web of deceit. I can't wait to read more by this author.

fast moving exciting Bahama Islands tale of drugs, murder, intrigue, and love

A story occurring mostly in the Bahama Islands that shows how powerful a corporation can be due to illegal transactions, mostly drug related. There are no qualms in this illicit business that lead to murder, sex, terrorism, and easily tearing families and individual lives apart. It makes corporation leaders non-trusting of almost all of those they deal with as well as their spouses and/or girlfriends and boyfriends, fiancés, and many times even their own selves! Rico Salazar was caught in a storm in an area of the Bahama Islands that was very remote with no populated islands nearby. He thought that it would be a perfect place to set up his business. His problem were the few people that lived on this mostly deserted island, so he had to scare them into moving away by any method he could devise. Salazar was good at conniving so it took little time to make this island into his own private drug manufacturing home, knowing he could control the entire area around the island due to the many shoals that made entrance almost impossible. If someone ventured into the area they would disappear and never be seen or heard of again. Madeleine Nesbitt and her parents were having a delightful cruise in their boat until they strayed too close to Salazar's island and, as with all others, they were trapped and killed. Maddy was fortunate to escape by hiding under water for some time until the killers had left her for dead. It was such an awful ordeal for her to watch her parents so harshly killed. She decided then and there that she would get revenge some how, some day. She laid out some elaborate plans by changing her name and appearance and eventually working for the man himself and those he dealt with in his huge drug trade. Salazar even had some of the police on his payroll so Maddy and any others trying to trip up this man with no conscience did not feel safe going to any law enforcement to report. The story moves around from the Bahama Islands, south Florida, and points around the area. You will learn much of how these drug cartels get their materials, manufacture their goods, and move them around to where they could sell them. While all of this transpired, Adam Joseph Hartman was appointed president and chairman of JaHart International, the company that had developed a new special defibrillator that prevented irregular heartbeats in heart patients. A J and his wife, Jeanette, worked hard to perfect the company but A J only had money, and beautiful women in his mind and the fact that he knew Salazar made the money making easier once they got their heads together. Enter Peter Duncan who A J hired as one of his executives in JaHart. Peter knew there was something wrong with the new defibrillator with the amount of returns due to malfunctions. Madeleine worked her way into A J's life and obtained his trust to give her knowledge of the company and all they did. A J knew nothing of Maddy's real intent but this gave her the entry into both companies to hurt all involved in her parents' death. Don't be confused by the above review because the story is well written and you can follow it easily. It flows well and contains many characters, good and bad-naturally-and there are many surprises throughout the story. Enjoy it; I did.

I am sure there is a lot that can be said of Shadow Cay by Leona Bodie. If nothing else, this story will provoke strong emotions and at times leave you breathless. This book is not for the faint of heart. There is suspense and drama and often time intense violence.

The vivid details bring all aspects of this story to life. From the beautiful Bahamas to bright and flashy Miami, Leona Bodie has a talent for describing scenes through her words. She also creates gripping suspense with those same skills, keeping the reader turning the pages to find out if Madeleine and Peter are successful in their efforts to stop Rico Salazar and the dangerous Colombian drug cartels.

The character development in Shadow Cay was rich and engaging. I felt like I was able to know the characters intimately as the story progressed. With a novel of this length good character development is key to keep the reader involved.

The author's use of dates to keep the storylines in focus was immensely helpful. The flashbacks and hopping between plots aid in the suspense but can get a bit confusing especially in the beginning while the author sets the stage for her thrilling climax.

I don't tend to like violent novels. I often read before bed and don't like the imagery following me into sleep. The suspense and intrigue in this novel makes it worth getting through the violence to the thrilling conclusion. Great job, Leona!

Leona pens her characters in "Shadow Cay" believable and strong, in a plot that is packed with crime, action, thrills, and suspense. I found the beginning to be a bit slow, but once you read past the first chapter, it will hook you right in. A total must read for all crime, suspense fans. *4 Stars*

I read this book for Promotional Book Tours for a fair and hones

I read this book for Promotional Book Tours for a fair and honest review. This is a rather large book. It's over 400 pages long. I can't remember the last time I read a book that long.

There is 3 main characters in this book with their own stories; Madeline a teenage girl with psychic abilities, Claude Pelletier who is a middle aged man whose wife just left him and Rico who is a drug trafficker.

This book is full of adventure and the high seas. It kind of reminds me of a pirate adventure. There is a lot going on in this book and sometimes it's hard to keep track of the story.

The author has the ability to really paint a picture of the scene she is writing. This book is kind of like a one size fits all book. This one book has a few different genres in it. No matter what genre you enjoy reading, this book will interest you.

An awesome suspense novel!
Shadow Cay is a well-written nautical tale. I read one other review that said “Do NOT read this book if you are planning to sail…” and I was thinking “It would be awesome to read this while sailing!” So, I guess that’s how people differ. Either way, I loved the pacing and suspense in this book that kept me intrigued the whole way through. Excellent developed characters, exciting action, and interesting settings. Loved this book.

This was a three in one story, like a triangle they all had their own story that became part of the big picture. An older man by the name of Claude Pelletier whose wife had left him; He was on his boat near the Chub Cay, on the northeastern fringe of Great Bahama Bank. He was depressed as well as drunk. He hit his head and passed out. Shortly after he woke up he heard foot steps, he had intruders. That was the start of his danger...

A young girl that has premonitions of sorts, sees images of this all happening.

She is born with a small red patch of skin that her parents are at first not concerned with but over time as it grows and changes color they express their concern to her doctor who is not the least but concerned. It then gets to the point that the doctor says he cannot operate on it due to the size. She has heart murmurs. Her heart is working at it's limit and sending all the blood to this tumor on the back of her head. She is losing weight. The doctors say that because the tumor is too big to operate on and her heart murmur and her being underweight; her survival chance is not looking good. Then a miracle happens. There is a doctor who speciallizes in what she needs. He does the operation and all is well. Her close friend Rollo, who found the doctor and is like a grandfather to Madeline takes her onto a ferry for a trip. Tragedy strikes but Madeline makes it by the skin of her teeth.

Rico, the third side of the story, is a huge drug dealer of sorts. He didn't have the best mother, a prostitute who didn't hide this fact from her son. He ate rotten food and bugs to survive. His mother was murdered. He didn't feel any sadness. Then an older woman with money takes him in. Gives him a home and treats him like her own. Then one day he sees his mothers traits in her and and can't stand her. He pushes her off the balcony and kills her. Inherits all her money etc. He is cold and mean hearted and selfish.

I was really looking forward to reading this book. It sounded really good with all the suspense and thrill and murder. But I found it hard to get into. The multistory line was hard for me to follow. I did enjoy each storyline and sympathized with all three main characters. Even Rico. At the same time though, I wanted to pull a Gibbs on Rico and smack him upside his head and shake some sense into him. He is smart enough to get an education (after killing the woman that took him in and let all she had to him) but dumped it all making a career out of drugs. This was a good book I just wish it were a bit easier to follow and not so hard to get into. I would recommend this book, though. Especially if you like and/or can follow multi story line books.

Leona Bodie is a good writer. I enjoyed her writing style and how Madeline developed through the book. I had a hard time with the book because of there being more than one or two story-lines but I wouldn't not recommend this book.

I am a big proponent of the saying don't judge a book by its cover. Leona Bodie's novel Shadow Cay proves me right. In this day and age of flash and sparkle, the pleasant, simple cover to the novel does not do justice to the action and suspense contained in its pages. I live in Bucks County,Pa., but any time I am able to slip away to Florida I do love to do it. I know this is just in the literary sense with the novel, but Bodie does such a nice descriptive job I felt like I was there. Please pass the SPF50, thank you.
The back cover of the novel gives us a glimpse of the story: " Already reeling from a rash of maritime disasters, a war and international terrorists, vigilante Madeline Nesbitt and amateur detective Peter Duncan are destined for even darker days when they investigate the man with no conscience behind the world's most profitable enterprise. They find themselves in a sea of corruption, deception and lies."
Leona Bodie has already gotten several children's books under her belt and this debut effort into the suspense genre is worthy of the read. She is adept at her narratives and brings the reader into another place, making us feel comfortable with the surroundings. Her characters contain all the right elements to make them engendered to us, and I could really feel myself getting a good groove on the direction they were headed. The plotline is well executed and carried out and it left me wanting more at the end of the novel. I don't think one could ask for more in a work of fiction. Here is a news flash from Leona Bodie herself:
"Although the winners in various fiction and nonfiction categories will be not be announced until this October in Orlando, SHADOW Cay has already been named a finalist for the 2010 Royal Palm Literary Awards, a competition sponsored by the Florida Writers Association, a nonprofit statewide professional organization."

Shadow Cay

This was a very fast paced (action) book. It was very believable, especially in this day and age. Rico Salazar is the head of a large drug operation. He finds the perfect spot to run things from and has patrol boats keep everyone away. Everyone knows the consequences of venturing into his area. madeleine Nesbitt has begged her parents not to fish in that area. They ignore her premonition and trouble strikes. Her parents put her over the side to save her. Unfortunately she is found in the water and taken to the island. For a sixteen year old she has a lot more smarts than most kids her age. She knows the only way to survive and possibly escape is to play along.
Madeleine becomes so good at playing along that Rico begins to trust her. He gives her more and more jobs to do. She is creative enough in handling them that she occasionally causes him some setbacks. He doesn't suspect her. Finally she is given the opportunity to make a delivery to the US. Once there she slips away. This seems easy since she had never given him her real name. But how long can she remain hidden from him and his men?
This was a page turner. The action was steady enough to keep me non-stop turning the pages until I had finished it. Can't wait to recommend this to friends at school.
