Overview

Jacob could hear what sounded like a thousand voices calling his name from the dark, hissing and moaning in a sickly chorus as if they were one voice--taunting him from the moon shadows beneath the trees--beneath the low lying limbs in tall grass. The moon was as bright as ever and the shadows beneath the trees as dark as a black hole. They were everywhere, much to his dismay, and he was terrified.

If only Carly were here, he thought, and then realized how wrong headed his ...

If only Carly were here, he thought, and then realized how wrong headed his thinking was. He looked down the path as far as he could into the darkness, hoping he would see her, or possibly one of his other friends. It had only been minutes since they'd left. Was she safe? Was she in trouble like him? He squinted harder hoping to see better.... Nothing....

Jacob was beginning to really hate Carthage Falls. There was something wrong with the place...seriously wrong. From the moment he and his mother had arrived to live with his grandfather, things had been weird. It started with strange dreams--nightmares--that he couldn't explain, and now this--shadows oozing out from under the trees, calling his name. As he turned to run, he realized it was too late....

Meet the Author

I'm an L.A. kid. It was a blast growing up there! I spent my early years working behind the scenes for stage companies. I started writing when I was in high school and continued writing when I went to film school. That was a wonderful experience for me and pumping out my first 120 page manuscript didn't hurt either. All the while I was writing screenplays, though, I secretly wanted to write books. But I seriously doubted my ability to do so. Thus, it took me nearly thirty-five years to finally convince myself to give it a shot. My influences while growing up were the arts and the entertainment world. I studied art in Claremont California where I grew up, and received my BFA in film-making at BYU. I pretty much grew up dabbling in the world of Hollywood--mostly on the outskirts. I had family there and they would invite me to come out and spend time around the movie sets. So I caught the bug and worked for nearly twenty-five years in the entertainment industry. I also spent ten years working with troubled teens. I now live in Utah where my wife and I raised six children, lots of cats, a couple of dogs and a whole lot of chickens. We visit the L.A. area often and still consider it home.

An interesting anecdote from life: When I was sixteen I snuck onto the set of one of the first mini-series, being filmed in my home town--Rich Man Poor Man. Surprisingly, they didn't kick me out. The sound man spoke with the director and they agreed to let me stay. So I got to spend the day watching Robert Reed (Father of the television series, The Brady Bunch) and Peter Strauss act-a lot of fun for a kid.

    Needs more work.

This book was in need of a couple more rewrites and an editor to help get it into shape. Basic idea is somewhat intriguing but it is bogged down by overexplained emotions and excessive exposition.
