Overview

The Underhill family has loomed over Pennsylvania politics for four generations as the most powerful in the state. Now, with their youngest son locked in a tight gubernatorial race, a simple accident threatens to derail the entire campaign. After Floss Underhill, the family matriarch, has been discovered alive after falling from a gazebo into a ravine, Brenna Kennedy gets brought in as a defense attorney to the family. The police don’t seem to believe that her fall was an accident, however, and soon neither does Brenna.

Jim Christensen, a psychologist, memory expert, and Brenna’s partner as they raise their children together, has been studying Floss Underhill for months in a group of Alzheimer’s patients. Her mind ravaged by the disease, her body broken by the fall, Floss Underhill nevertheless knows something, and is trying to tell Christensen a family secret so explosive it could bring down an empire. To help bring it out of her, though, will make them powerful enemies, and bring both the truth—and the danger—very close to home…

    An excellent thriller novel..!!

Well written, fast moving, superb plot, and the outcome of the plot was a complete surprise to me.
This novel is as good as TIME RELEASE and I look forward to STRAW MEN next.

I read thisbook sometime back and guess I either did not leave a review or it did not "take"

I read this book a few months ago and my review either did not "take" or I forgot to leave one. This book was well edited, a decent length, held my interest, a not just for women whodunit, with plenty of excitment and intrigue. It was a fast read. There was the expected violence and murder, but the details were not overdone. There is mild sex, and some strong langauge. There are several non preachy references to religion. There is a partnership with children, instead of a marriage, but this has become a common practice. It took me about a third of the way through to figure out who and whydunit. But then I discovered I was both right and wrong. Which was nice. I love a puzzler. The characters were well rounded. There was one of the characters, I would have liked to meet in a dark alley, while I was equiped with brass knuckles and a sap, perhaps a chainsaw, to teach him/ her a lesson or three. I figure if a character bugs me this much, the author must be doing something right. There was even a very decent conclusion. The reason I did not give this book five stars is because the action stalled out and the conversations were overlong and seemed to be repetitive. For ages 18 and up. Overall one of the better $2.99 books, I have read in a while.
