The #1 New York Times bestselling “queen of paranormal romance”* is back with a sexy new series starring a Chicago crime family that hides a dark, mystical secret...
Whether it’s fast cars or fast women, Stefano Ferraro gets what he wants. When he’s not fodder for the paparazzi, he commands Ferraro family businesses—both legitimate and illegitimate.
While their criminal activity is simply a rumor yet to be proven, no one knows the real truth. The Ferraros are a family of shadow riders capable of manipulating light and dark, an ability Stefano thought ran in his family alone—until now…
With little left to her name, Francesca Cappello has come to Chicago in hopes of a new life. She wasn’t expecting to attract the attention of a man with primal hunger in his eyes, driven to claim her as his to protect and to please. And if he discovers her secret, it could ruin her...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Feehan (Dark Promises) inflicts an aggressively sexist hero on her hapless heroine in this poorly rendered contemporary paranormal series opener. Set in an utterly generic and implausible rendering of Chicago, the story centers on Francesca Capello, a woman fleeing her tragic past, and Stefano Ferraro, the scion of a wealthy family with a secret—they can travel through shadows. Stefano recognizes that Francesca is also a shadow rider and proceeds to take control of her life. Frequently using the excuse that his control is for her safety, Stefano steamrolls Francesca’s weak protests and at one point goes so far as to kidnap her from her apartment and force her to move into his penthouse. The plot’s attempts to justify Stefano’s actions are flimsy, reverting to cartoonish violence so repetitive that the characters comment on it themselves. Even readers interested in an extreme fantasy rendering of a domination/submission relationship are likely to struggle with the unrelenting misogyny thinly cloaked as chivalry. Agent: Steve Axelrod, Axelrod Agency. (June)

Library Journal
On the run from the powerful man who killed her sister in Los Angeles, Francesca Capello heads to Chicago with her best friend, hoping to fly under the radar and make a new life for herself. There, she ends up attracting the attention of Stefano Ferraro, whose high-profile, somewhat mysterious family controls and protects the area where she now lives. She is swept into an unfamiliar life and claimed by a ruthless assassin with a fierce sense of responsibility who rewrites the definition of alpha male hero. VERDICT Edgy, inventive, and steamy, this deliciously dark, often grim story featuring deadly and graceful characters who literally slip through the shadows is a standout for the creative Feehan and launches another well-conceived series. Feehan (Fire Bound) lives in Northern California.
Kirkus Reviews
Paranormal romance writer Feehan (Fire Bound, 2016, etc.) returns with a Chicago-set series about a family of "shadow riders." Stefano Ferraro is the head of a wealthy and powerful family whose members protect innocents and execute criminals using their secret powers. As shadow riders, the Ferraros can connect with shadows and ride them like an expressway, invisibly infiltrating enemy territory. When Francesca arrives in Chicago after a violent encounter, Stefano takes one look at the new employee in the neighborhood deli and decides she's his. The novel moves predictably through Francesca's speedy transition from reluctant recipient of Stefano's aggressive attentions to humble supplicant of his family's protection. With little in the way of relationship development or plot, the novel is filled with repetitive descriptions of Stefano's alpha-male personality. Francesca's character serves mainly to reflect uncritical appreciation of Stefano's protectiveness and power. An intriguing twist on paranormal powers dimmed by thin characters and a predictable plot.

I have read all of Feehan's books and have loved them. That being said, I have been disappointed in her last two books. Good stories but she is promoting bondage, violent sex and submissive women. Very disappointing. I hope this doesn't continue or she may lose one her biggest fans.

Loved the story and the idea just wish for a bit more paranormal in the series. Also wanted the main female to have a little more back bone. Otherwise loved it and can't wait for more.

Really enjoyed the book, except for the never ending sex. Way over the top, almost made me think of that terrible movie Fifty Shades. Bond age and every act of sex delivered in page after page after page. Good ideas and possible good follow stories but not sure I will continue reading this series.

I remember when Christine Feehan wrote good books.

Too many f-bombs!! Too much graphic sex. He was a complete jerk. She was way too submissive. Characters were flat. Felt like I was reading something written by a beginning author trying to mimic Feehan's formula but just couldn't pull it off. I have been a fan for many years and I follow all her series. Reading this one was torture. Very disappointed.

As a huge fan of anything Christine Feehan, and avid reader of all her series, I think this new one will be just as amazing. Would like to see her tone down on the F- bomb and endless bondage- like sex and give her female characters more strength and significance ( other than for a man to bang) I will continue to read and look forward to them.

If you have read the Ghostwalkers and Carpathian series, the premise of this book will be familiar to you. I hope it takes on the characteristics of the Ghostwalkers, where there is a definite plot to go with the sex. Ms. Feehan gets caught up in her sex scenes to the pointthat any plot becomes secondary. I hope that she will put her energies into this series and let the Carpathians go. That series has worn itself down.

Feehan cool it with the raunchy sex every 20 pages. You are one of my favorite authors but this new kink you are on is slowly disgusting me.

I can not wait for the next installment. A dark, dangerous male finds peace and love. What could be better? I would love to see a little more humor though, to give it a brake with the dark intensity. If that makes sense. Love her books.

It's a departure from her normal stuff. But it's still Christina feeding at the core. It's a great read regardless of the amount of cussing.

How many f-bombs can a person read before getting disgusted? Sorry won't be recommending this book. ..

SHADOW RIDER is an awesome start to what’s to be an extraordinary series! Christine Feehan blew my mind with this exciting and engaging read! I loved every word of it! You can’t go wrong with unapologetically stubborn alpha males with unwavering loyalty, unfailing protectiveness and a family legacy vital to each and every family member. Stefano and the rest of the Ferraro family are protectors of their community and deliverers of justice for those who desperately need it. I LOVED this close knit family. Stefano is almost too intense/overprotective/dominant/pushy. When he found Francesca, he went WAY overboard in his pursuit of her. It was romantic and yet intense. Thankfully Francesca is a strong female but even she could get railroaded by Stefano and his desperate need for her and for her safety. That being said, I thought they both fit each other well and their relationship worked with the storyline. I couldn’t put the book down! There is a lot of violence and tough abuse themes in the book that may make some readers uncomfortable. I didn’t have too much trouble with it because I knew the shadow riders would get justice, but the graphic scenes are still in there, in case readers need the warning. Ms. Feehan is an extremely gifted author. I loved the story and can’t wait for the next one! ***I was gifted an early copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

I wasn't planning on reading this book, because I read to many bad reviews, but I had a gift and I said whatever let me check it out. Let me tell you I LOVED it. I love everyone except the bad guys lol. Stefano was a lil Alpha male but Francesca knew how to handled him. I can't wait for Ricco's book which is next. . I think we know who is Emme's and Vittorio's mate, but we will see sometimes Ms. Feehan has another plans.

I have been a big fan of yours for a long time but I'll admit I was getting easily distracted with some books because nothing caught my attention.......rest assured you have definetly caught my attention with this family loved them loved how protective they are, loved reading how close they are including their cousins, plus loved how take control they seemed to be cause I'll admit I like my kink and if this is what some call to much sex they haven' t read my kind of books .... I for one really liked this new leaf your trying out so needless to say I can not wait for which Farraro sibling comes next luved it!!!!!!!

No backbone just stupit winny women and over aggressive men. I wish I would not have wasted my money, the women were weak and the men were backward!

Feehan has once again come up with a great concept for her newest series, "Shadow Riders." However, the first book in the series was basically nothing more then contained soft core porn. The first half of the book contained so much sex between the two main charcters that it actually took away from the main plot. Because of this, it was difficult to get into what exactly is a shadow rider, or what exactly is each individual's job title. We need less sexual description and more focus on who and what the family is and how do they work. In other words, make the storyline more cohesive, like your other series.

These books are now all the same, ses, sec and more sex. The man demands the woman give in to his every whim and of course, needing the man so desperately she gives him everything! Sad, very sad.

Wow!! I wondered if she'd do a story with the mob in it
