The problem is this short story isn't even a story. It's a lengt

The problem is this short story isn't even a story. It's a lengthy prologue to whatever Scalzi has planned to come after. It's something of a rip off as a result.

The writing is also strained. It's all about the Writer trying very hard to be Clever. It's distracting to read something where I am continually reminded of the writer at work.

I think Scalzi's a chill guy, but this not-really-a-story story is not worth your dollar.

    Applestar:Warrior Ceremony

"May all cats gather beneath the High Rock for a clan meeting!!!" I yowl, leaping up onto it. I wait for everyone to assemble before I begin. "Honorpaw, please step forward." She steps forward, and then I continue. "The time has come for Honorpaw to become a ShadowClan warrior, as StarClan has deemed it so. She has worked hard, and for that, I thank her," I mew, smiling. "Honorpaw, do you swear to uphold the warrior code, and protect ShadowClan with your life?" I ask. "I do," she says firmly. "Well, I, Applestar, hereby name you Honorblaze. You will hold a silent vigil tonight." I pause briefly. "HONORBLAZE! HONORBLAZE!!!" I shout, and the rest of the clan begins chanting her name.
