Shadowbound

Evil speaks the words we wish most to hear.

For the price of a loaf of bread, young Jen spins her spells in the squalid marketplaces of the City's slums. But when her father sells her to the wizard Barras for gold, Jen finds herself bound to a man who holds her utterly in his power.

So begin five years of reluctant apprenticeship, while Jen schemes to open a gateway to the Otherworlds, her only hope of escaping Barras' binding.

Yet she remains blind to another, more profound binding—the brutality she suffered as a girl that poisons her soul and allows a dark and ancient entity housed in a black stone to entice her into its power with promises of freedom.

Before she can resist the whispers of the malevolent spirit luring her into evil, Jen must first conquer her own inner darkness.

About the Author

Kathlena Contreras has been writing since the age of eight, when while hanging out at her dad's office one summer, she typed out a story about a saber-toothed tiger that encounters a time machine. The story was three paragraphs long.

Many years and many paragraphs later and here she is, still writing about weird things. In between writing, Kathlena has been the owner of a successful small business, an assistant medical librarian, a database manager and a pusher of paper in countless offices. She's also been a copy editor for three nationally distributed rodeo magazines and the editor of a local literary magazine.

She currently lives with her husband, five dogs and assorted livestock on the edge of the woods above the valley east of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, the Land of Enchantment, a place where the view goes on forever.

Kathlena also writes as K. Lynn Bay.
