Shannon Bailey's Shadowbrook Manor is a step back in time and a glimpse of a love that reaches beyond death. As fans of Ms. Bailey have become accustomed to, this story takes twists and turns, leaving the reader anxious to unravel a mystery. Her descriptions are so precise you can smell the sea and agonize over a forbidden affair. This story was another captivating tale from an author who has the ability to whisk readers away to a time and place other than their own.

Shadowbrook Manor is a book that will keep you captivated from beginning to end! From the minute you start your journey with Samantha, you are thrown into a whirlwind of lies, deceit, and a romance so pure and so true, it lasted throughout lifetimes. This is a book that you can't just leisurely read, but one that demands your attention. I love it, and cannot wait for more from Shannon Bailey!

I've read Shadowbrook Manor three times this week. There really isn't any other way to explain how magnificent the latest from Shannon Bailey truly is!...on the lovely Mackinac Island... She has magnificently described the scents, flavors, and views of this gorgeous place.
I'll admit I cried all three times through the HEA and have placed Shadowbrook Manor on my permanent Keeper List of great romances!

Meet the Author

Hello! Thanks for stopping by!

I like to think of myself as an author of tales that are two scoops of romantic suspense smothered in mystery and topped with a twist... Sorry, just realized I'm a bit peckish.

Overall, my preferred era, both personally and artistically, is the Victorian Age and its influence in America. I simply love the clothing, medical and scientific advances, and social graces of that time period.

Let's see, what else could I include here? ...Oh yes, influences and/or inspirations for my novels.

1.)THE SECRET LIFE OF RACHEL HILLERMAN, formerly THE HAUNTED HILLERMAN HOUSE - My hometown of Dixon, IL and family and friends.
Trivia: The Truesdell bridge collapse scene described in the book is a true historic event. More information can be found on the Dixon Historical Society's website.

2.)MURDER AND MAYHEM IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS, formerly HER KNIGHT WITH A SHINING STAR - The town of New Castle's rich mining and railroad history.
Trivia: The Marshal Schneider mentioned in the book was the real town marshal at the time of the strikes and he was written up several times for drinking and gambling while on duty.

3.)THE BLACKWELL BROTHERS, formerly THE UNWILLING - Bram Stoker's Dracula character as well as the cult-classic films, FRIGHT NIGHT and LOST BOYS.
Trivia: At that time, having recently read THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY by Erik Larson, I was sure to include a small scene at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago and the amazing George Washington Ferris Wheel. (Makes me wonder, was the London Eye modeled after it?)

4.)SHADOWBROOK MANOR - The film SOMEWHERE IN TIME and the island itself. From the first moment I saw it, on the approach from the ferry, I knew I would write a novel about the magical little island.
Trivia: I modeled the character Tobias Walker after actor, Sam Elliott.

Should you read any of my little ole stories, would love to hear what you think! A nice little review or rating.

Again, thanks for stopping by!

    Shannon Bailey...'O' is for OUTSTANDING

As a reviewer, you get to read many books from many authors, both new and old. I had the pleasure of reading a book by Shannon Bailey called The Haunted Hillerman House a few years ago, and I noted at that time, that although she was a new author, she was going to grow up and be a gifted mystery writer. She certainly had the `mindset'. She switched gears and wrote a Vampire trilogy; Forever Davids, Develyns Tale and The End of the Order, now all three bound as The Unwilling. Still they all had that hint of mystery, that twist around every corner! Three years later, I am the recipient of a submission for Shadowbrook Manor, and I see Ms. Bailey is all grown up. This book shows her growth as a writer and her talent for murder, mystery, and mayhem. This story is sharper, twisting and winding the reader down a path if no return. Samantha was in a marriage that was falling apart. She learns her husband was killed in a tragic car accident along with another passenger, a woman, his lover. After dealing with this terrible treachery, she learns that his parents, through their guilt, have given her a house on Mackinac Island, Mi. This is where we find Sam, traveling there to fix it up as quickly as possible and get it sold. We next meet Tobias, an older gentleman, who met her at the ferry, helped load her luggage into his horse drawn wagon and would taxi her to the Manor. During their ride, he elaborated on the families and the gossip of the island, along with the story of Shadowbrook Manor, the haunting story of Captain Alexandre O'Keefe and his beloved Leslie. Sam scoffs at the thought of ghosts. She definitely is a non-believer. As Tobias re counts the story, Alexandre comes to the Manor in the late 1890's. A year later, he meets the beautiful Leslie Faraday, her husband James and another couple they are traveling with, the Burtram's. Alex and Leslie fall in love over that summer and then tragedy happens. Alex was found dead in the Manor, and Leslie has disappeared. It is said the captain's ghost still waits for Leslie to return. Ms. Bailey draws you in immediately with her wonderful pictures of the area and its ambiance. You can see the water, the bridge, and the winding paths. You can feel the sun and smell the flowers. Color comes bursting from the pages and a wonderful tale of everlasting love weaves itself into your heart. The sadness, the deceit, the lies, and finally the truth take the reader through a path that is mesmerizing. I loved the story, I cried, I was shocked, I was angry. I ran the gamut of feelings throughout. It is a wonderful love story filled with mysteries that you will not solve until the last page. And when you do, you will feel fulfilled... I await your next endeavor Shannon Bailey! Review by Gloria Lakritz Senior Reviewer for the Paranormal Romance Guild
