The Meanest Streets

James Kincaid is the type of guy who might be described as down on his luck, if only he’d had some luck to begin with. Overview

The Meanest Streets

James Kincaid is the type of guy who might be described as down on his luck, if only he’d had some luck to begin with. Like so many people in the shadows of Seattle, he’s trying to get by with what he has. In his case, that includes a lively spirit, a sadly diminished magical talent, quick wits, and good knowledge of the twists and turns of Seattle’s dingy streets and back alleys. He puts all that to the service of whatever clients he can dig up, solving whatever cases they’re willing to pay him to take on. With any luck, he’ll scrape up enough nuyen to buy a few rounds of his favorite drink—whiskey, neat.

His latest case seems simple enough—find a girl who’s gone missing. But throw in a couple of feuding megacorporations, a few organized crime families, and a full selection of the odd denizens of Seattle’s streets, and you’ve got a case that’s anything but easy. It’s up to Kincaid to see how many people he can keep alive—including (and especially) himself.

Neat is a brand-new Shadowrun novella plunging readers into the cold, sharp environs of the Sixth World. Elves, trolls, orks, and dwarves mix with humans in the shadowy streets of a near-future world altered by magic, trying to survive on the crumbs dropped by the megacorporations that dominate the world. Whether you’re new to Shadowrun fiction or a longtime fan, Neat is your ticket back to the Sixth World in all its dark, desperate glory.

You get what you pay for

It is a good book. I enjoyed it. However it was very short (I read it in a night) but thats why its only 3$. If you are looking for a good quick read and are a fan of Shadowrun or if you are just looking to get into the whole Cyberpunk genre then I would highly recommend this book. If you are looking for a longer read similar to the older Shadowrun novels then I would sugest waiting for a longer book or until they chose to release the older novels in Ebook format.

Definitely nice to read a story that takes place after the wireless rebirth of the Matrix.

Neat is well-written, and I found it very easy to be immersed in the story. Yes, it's a short story, and that's something to be aware of when choosing to buy this.

Overall...I very much enjoyed this story, and if Zimmerman decides to write more stories in the Sixth World, I will gladly and loyally read :).

The story is good but it is way too short. Also it is too expensive for an ebook of that size only 74 pages.

    Ok, merely ok.

It's a 2.99 novella so really if you go in expecting a sweeping detective story look elsewhere. I have been a fan of the RPG and just wanted to revisit the world. Zimmerman does a good job of recapturing all that gritty sci-fi feel that most folks compare to "Blade Runner". He also manages to make a noir detective complete with addictions and gal fridays (or elemental fridays as the case may be). He could have stretched it out to a full book if he wanted but making it a short gives you a quick 1 hour read that puts you in a place and hopefully makes you want to play in the world setting.
