This book is definitely different from Medeiros' other books, mostly in the actions of the hero and heroine. I guess in today's world, you could say Gareth was mean bordering on abusive toward the heroine at some points in the novel. But he also displays lovely acts of generosity, passion, and kindness to her as well. The beautiful blonde heroine, Rowena, is not like most romance novel heroines today-- the cliched 'fiery, stubborn woman'-- she was more complacent and accepting of the injustices Gareth presented her with. But this type of heroine is to be admired as well, as you can see why she acts the way she does when you learn about her upbringing. She has an optimistic strength that fits very well with Gareth's dark, brooding nature. When these two finally fall in love, it will make you sign with contentment. The chemistry and love scenes are definitely hot. And I love the Medieval setting of the story.

This one kept me hooked through the whole book. I normally do not like medival books, this dates 1292. But it really doesn't hit on the time period too much. It's about family loyalty and of course love.

Not at all what I thought. The hero was good but the heroine was not to my liking at all. She just reminds me of a little girl all the time, maybe it was the way the author described her. She also makes stupid decisions in the book. However I do love the dialogues in the novel; they were funny, cute, and very romantic. The plot was ggood but it is slow to begin with. If you like a book with lots of wit, charm, and a long plot with a child-like heroine this would be the book for you.

I have to say, this is one of my favorite books of all time. Teresa Medeiros was at her finest when she wrote this novel. I loved her characters because they are unique. Rowena is beautiful, but also fragile and vulnerable. Gareth is very, very dark - almost like a Heathcliff-type character. The chemistry between the two is very strong. Medeiros's writing style draws you into the story. Plenty of beautifully descriptive scenes and memorable dialogue. I find that many romances are dumbed-down these days, but this is a complex story with a captivating plot. The love scenes sizzle. Truly a book to cherish.
