Love this author and this book

    My Summary:

Dawson is a triplet. His older (by minutes) bother, Daemon, looks identical to him. Daemon is overprotective and a little antisocial at times - at least with the humans. His sister, Dee, is hyper and very social with anyone - human or luxon. Oh and all three of them are aliens. They're supposed to stay low key, living with the human but not being discovered. The DOD looks poorly on too much ...um involvement with humans. Still they go to school and talk to the humans but that's it. Until Bethany moves to town and Dawson can't seem to leave her alone. If the luxon's don't do him in for it the DOD's gonna find out. What future is there for a human and a luxon anyway? None at all.

    My Thoughts:

5 stars - READ IT NOW if not sooner

Yes I love Jennifer's writing, her characters and her storyline. I have yet to read anything from her that I didn't love but WOW I loved this book.

Dawson is this strong, fierce, determine guy that reminds me so much of Daemon without the sucky attitude. I fell fast and hard. He's attracted to Bethany from the start but it takes time for them to fall hard, which I appreciated. What I really, really enjoyed was how Dawson was bold and confident with their relationship. I loved how they spend time together. I LOVED their first kiss, which.... oh just read it. The point is we didn't spend 95% of the book waiting for them to figure out that they liked each other and then 2 pages of a great relationship followed by something breaking them up only to have it fixed at the last second. NO, we enjoyed a fabulous building of a strong happy relationship. (Lots and lots of sighing, fanning and awing happening here). Of course, if you've read Obsidian, you know the ending is sad but what a ride until then.

It was so fabulous getting to know Daemon better. It opens up a whole new understanding of why he has such sucky social skills with the humans anyway. I think I understand Dee better too. Seeing the three together made it clear what their relationship is really like. Bethany got to see that too. We saw them through her eyes. So fun.

Speaking of seeing through different eyes, this novella was from three points of view (POV). Dawson, Bethany and Daemon. I have really taken to reading from the male POV lately. Love knowing what's going on inside their heads and Jennifer does a great job with that.

If you read Obsidian, then this is one you're gonna want to read ASAP. If you haven't read Obsidian, then start with this one. It's fabulous.

    OHMYGOODNESS!AMAZING!READ IT!

Omygoshh look at the cover *drools* Shadows was so fantastic! This was soooo awesomesauce!! Dawson and Bethany are the sweetest! You couldn't help not loving them. If fans of this series read Obsidian first, as I did, you will know what happens to our sweet couple.
Dawson was the complete opposite of Daemon. Dawson was like sunshine, unicorns and rainbows while Daemon was all thunder and lightning. Shadows gave an insight of why Daemon was the way he is in Obsidian. Even in Shadows, Daemon kept people at arms' length and was the parent figure in the family as he was the oldest - by a few minutes. I understood Daemon better and his behavior in Obsidian was justifiable as it was like history repeating itself all over again.
Dawson on the other hand, was a sweetheart and did what he liked. His romance with Beth was very different from that of Daemon and Katy. Dawson was the all-smiling-and-grinning guy. He was very lovable and sweet. He did not regret loving Beth but the only thing he regretted was that he wasn't as strong as his brother.
The ending was really a heartbreak but I have a really really strong feeling that Dawson and Beth may not be dead after all as Daemon and Dee never got to see their bodies.
Shadows is a wonderful read and I recommend reading it after Obsidian.
Now I am just dying for ONYX! It can't come soon enough!

Good but no where near as GREAT as Daemon and Katy in Obsidian- Sort of hoping Dawson stays dead in the next one but I have a feeling he's coming back. I think his death makes Daemon more interesting and contributes to his attitude, which I loved. Still, on the whole, if I had read this one first I might have given it 5 stars. In a wierd way, Jennifer ruined Dawson for me by making me love Daemon first. Keep them coming, Jennifer!

I really loved this book but I'm glad I read Obsidian first. It would have ruined Daemon’s attitude problem and I love that about him. Though I’m confused why this is called a prequel it came out before the first one did and I don’t get why that bothers me so bad. It was a quick fun read and if you are in the mood to laugh it’s a must. I highly recommend!

Shadows in a short novella which fills in some blank spots about Daemons brother Dawson Black.

Since I’ve read Obsidian (Lux #1) first this story gave me some of the unanswered questions I had about the missing brother and what may have happened to them.

Even though this is a short story it is a great read, Dawson and Bethany are a great couple and I loved their story.

If you’re a fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout writing this is a must read.
Shadows is about Dawson and Bethany how they met, the feelings, the romance, the acceptance of each other and oh did I mention hot boy.

This short novel fills in some blank areas and you get to see how Dawson and Daemon are very different from each other but yet both swoon worthy. Best part is you get to read what happened to Dawson and Bethany and understand why they are not in Obsidian, the only question left is have they been taken by the DOD, are they dead? One can only hope they appear safe and sound…. This again is another must read!

Jennifer has out done herself with this short novel and I have rated it another 5 star rating as I absolutely love her writing and the Lux Series. I recommend it to all my friends and followers.

Shadows is the novella that tells the story of Dawson, Daemon and Dee's brother, and Bethany, a human girl. It takes place before Obsidian, but was released after Obsidian (Confusing, I know, haha). This story is good, and I liked Dawson and Bethany just fine. However, I could not keep myself from comparing them to Daemon and Kat, and in my opinion, they just couldn't compete. Daemon and Kat seem like the real deal to me, and Dawson and Bethany had a bit of insta-love going on. They were all syrupy sweet while Daemon and Kat are sarcastic. Because of that, I wasn't into Shadows as much as I was into Obsidian. However, I did enjoy learning about Dawson and Bethany, and this story helped clear up why Daemon is the way he is.

Dawson is a bit more laid back than Daemon, and because of that, I can see how people would like him better. He's more social, and he seems to like people more. He's also not afraid to follow his heart, consequences be damned. However, he is flawed. He's extremely selfish, and I feel that he could have been a bit less bratty when pleading his case about Bethany. I believed they should be together if they wanted to be, but I didn't think that he needed to get all pissy about it constantly. Because of his flaws, he came across as very real and easy to relate to. I felt for Dawson, but for the life of me, I couldn't understand his obsession with Bethany. I mean I get being attracted to someone and wanting to get to know them, but he was a bit obsessive about her. Not stalker-type obsessive, but internally obsessive... I hope that makes sense.

Don't worry, though. Bethany, too, was obsessed with Dawson. She started painting him and daydreaming about him constantly after she spoke to him once. I expect that behavior more from a female, but I still don't understand it. Bethany is a lot weaker than Kat, and because of that, I didn't like her as much. She's more of a pushover when it comes to letting people walk all over her. She is a nice girl, though, and I did like her... just not as much as Katy (see what I mean with the comparing?). Her personality went well with Dawson's, though, and they seemed to compliment each other nicely.

This story read more like a romance than Obsidian. Basically, the plot revolves around the trials and tribulations of Dawson and Bethany's relationship. How they have to overcome obstacles, such as being different species, and how they have to go against mean girls and angry aliens in order to be together. The threat of the DOD and Arum gave the story an underlying sense of danger. There was not a lot of action until the very end. The story, of course, ends abruptly since it's only leading up to Obsidian, so if you haven't read Obsidian yet, the cliffhanger may annoy you. Since I read Obsidian first, it wasn't annoying to me. Basically, you should buy Obsidian when you buy Shadows, then you won't have the cliffhanger problem! :D

Overall, I recommend this novella to anyone who is a fan of the Lux series. Also, Shadows fills in a lot of the gaps that were present in Obsidian. I know a lot more about Dawson and Bethany's story now, and I also know a lot more about the reasons for Daemon's jerkiness. Furthermore, I feel that Dawson and Bethany paved the way for other aliens to intermingle with humans more if they so desired. In the end, I admire Dawson and Bethany for standing up for their love and what they believe in. I just wish they hadn't been so sappy about it.

    A Must Read

This book and all that is associated with it is breath taking. I honestly couldn't get enough of the characters. It is very original. In all honesty I didn't care for it too much to be in 3rd person because I prefer 1st person, but if anyone has ever read the series that goes with this book then it is more understandable as to why it is in 3rd person. All in all it was a great insight to the series.

    Barkclouds story part 3

" Minnowkit, step forward. I am changing your name to Barkkit. I hope you like your new name. It describes your pelt color and your heart." Barkkit clawed at the ground. " Barkpaw's mentor will be the clan's deputy himself, seafur!" Yowls of approvement came from the cloud of cats. Ratclaw and Rainbowpetal nuzzled Barkpaw, and Leechpaw and Cowkit did the same. Leapingkit and Twirlingkit congratulated Barkpaw by jumping on her ears, and Seafur touched noses. Soon it was the third cats turn.

Can't get enough of these stories

I really enjoyed reading shadows. I loved the Lux series and can't wait for origins to come out this August. Getting the back ground on Dawson and Beth's story helped me to understand some of went on with their characters in the other books. Dawson is such an opposite to Daemon, he isnt afraid to let Beth know how he feels. (and of course getting to spend more time reading about Daemon is a plus! )

    Again...Just so great

I can not get enough of these books! Even really knowing the outcome of this one because I read Obsidian first ( it is the first book of the actual story ) this is the back story of Dawson twin brother of Daemon ( who is the main male character in Obsidian) and I still was unable to put it down...

    Much Dawson Love!! :)

This novella takes place about a year before the events of Obsidian start. I highly recommend reading, at the very least, the first two in the series Obsidian and Onyx first. Not that it makes a major difference. But for me part of what I enjoyed so much was the discovering of different secrets and situations reading through books 1-3. This book brings you back in time and answers some questions about Bethany and Dawson that you don't get into in the rest of the series. It's their story and leads you right up to their disappearance.

I created a soft spot for Dawson at the very beginning of Opal, strangely enough, when Katy wakes up at the crack of dawn to find him in her room sitting on her bed. So broken and empty and yet he let Katy in. It was just a great scene to me.

The story of Bethany and Dawson is very sweet and romantic and passionate and yet so full of sorrow and tragedy. I am so glad that Jennifer L. Armentrout wrote this story. Since most of the things that happened between these two was in secret, due to exposure risk, you really don't know much apart from they disappeared and through the first book at least were thought to have been dead. Since Obsidian - Opal are from Katy's POV all you get from Dawson and Bethany are the bits and pieces that family and friends know which is 3 days after they come down from a hiking trip in the mountains, covered in blood, they disappear when going to the movies. And since what happened between them is a huge link to what happens between Katy and Daemon, I always wondered what happened that day. Plus reading this feeds my Lux obsession a little bit ;)

It also helped me to sympathize more with Daemon and his first reaction to Katy. Living through, in a sense, what he went through with the loss of his brother gave me a better understanding of the mistrust and dislike for this human girl who had done nothing but simply move in next door. Though I did want to gag coming across an Ash/Daemon scene. Bleh! But yeah, it was pretty emotional what everyone went through.

A great addition to the Lux series.
