Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
At the start of Agatha-finalist Wait’s so-so sixth Antique Print mystery (after 2011’s Shadows of a Down East Summer), Maggie Summer spots a man’s body on a beach on Massachusetts’s Cape Cod and dials 911. The local police chief, Ike Iron, who responds, identifies the man as Dan Jeffrey, a nasty drunk who was alienated from his grown daughter. Ike, who suspects Dan drowned, orders an inquest. Meanwhile, Maggie helps prepare for the wedding, just a week away, of her disabled friend, Gussie White, the ever-cheerful owner of the antique shop Aunt Augusta’s Attic. Amid what turns into a plodding homicide investigation, Maggie must contend with a number of social issues, such as the groom’s decision to invite a guest with Down’s syndrome and her desire to adopt a baby girl against her boyfriend’s wishes. A second murder and a looming hurricane inject some suspense into what is otherwise a routine cozy. (Apr.)
From the Publisher
"Sweet, and cozy as a Cape Cod summer. These lovely characters and their deceptively welcoming little town will captivate fans of Cabot Cove and St. Mary Mead...”
-Hank Phillippe Ryan, The Other Woman

"Wait's story captures the unique atmosphere of Cape Cod. The characters are complex, and evolve, with the unexpected challenges." -- -Sheila Connolly, Buried in a Bag

Lea Wait's 6th "Shadows" Antique Print mystery is set

Lea Wait's 6th "Shadows" Antique Print mystery is set in Cape Cod, where Maggie Summer has come for her friend Gussie's wedding. The action starts immediately when Maggie finds a body on the beach. Gussie is now in a wheelchair due to her Post-Polio Syndrome, and she's moving into a new house and antique shop. A hurricane is on the way to complicate things. We find out more about the dead man's past. People are in danger from someone, and there's another death. Even Maggie might be a target. Wedding preparations are a unifying element in the mystery. Will Brower, Maggie's love, joins her for the wedding. But Maggie is so involved in the crime that he begins to complain. The killer is found, but not until after some danger to Maggie. But we won't know how Maggie's personal problems will turn out until Wait writes the 7th Shadows mystery. We hope she's fast writer!

Living at the Jersey Shore and recently experiencing 2 hurricane

Living at the Jersey Shore and recently experiencing 2 hurricanes, I found the hurricane theme very realistic. Maggie continues to think about a serious decision she must make. And all of this with a wedding and a murder to solve. What more can you ask for in a book? Very enjoyable.

I've read the books in this series in the order written and this

I've read the books in this series in the order written and this was my favorite as the characters have become closer in their relationships as I feel they are friends of mine.  The murder in this case was totally an unexpected finding of a dead body on the beach. The murderer was unexpected, too!  How delightful in a mystery book.  It is possible to read the titles out of order, but the characters make more sense when you've seen them develop from the get-go!

    Summer read

Fun mystery set in my favorite place, Cape Cod. Unfinished ending was a little disappointing.
