Shaken (Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels Series #7)

Not available for Nook.....WTH????

Why isn't this available on the Nook? I only gave a one star rating because I can't download this one to my Nook. I have read the previous 6 Jack Daniel's series and enjoyed them very much. I recommended this series to several people. Any idea when it will be available? I already submitted as request through B&N.

Very disappointed

Story jumped around so much. All the other J. A. Konrath books in this series was soooooo good. This one not so much. You could tell he was taking great leaps in the story to attempt a finish to the series.Very disappointed.

A well-written book but heavy on gore

Shaken is the 7th book in a series about Chicago policewoman, Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels. This is the first book that I have read in the series and it's fair to say that I really didn't enjoy it all that much. The writing is good and the story the same as many torture/murder tales out there. But, this one was a bit sicker than most. "Jack" has been hunting her nemesis "Mr. K". He is a brutal serial killer that has avoided "Jack" twice over the years. "Mr. K" is the ultimate serial killer who has killed more than two hundred people in the most horrid ways. She finally gets the opportunity to face "Mr. K." Of course, she has to do this hidden in a storage locker where he has primed her to be his next victim. She is bound and gagged and facing death in a most extreme manner. She has seen what "Mr. K" did to his other victims and knows what to expect. In the book, the author goes back in time to explain Jack's life and how she ended up as a Lieutenant in the police force. From the first time that she came in contact with the killer as a rookie policewoman and saw his horrible killing ways, through her career as she moves up in the department and is still pursuing "Mr. K." We see her grow as a person of authority and as a good friend to her colleagues. She is a different woman now but, will she be savvy enough to stop a crazy killer? There is humor in the book but, some readers might not be able to see it as there is so much blood and gore that they might not be able to deferentiate between the fun and the killing. The ending is a definite cliff-hanger but it wasn't worth reading trhrough all the gore to get to it. Quill Says: A well-written book but very sick in some places. After reading many Mystery/Thrillers and Horror stories, I still found it hard to read some of this book. You would have to be a very special reader to be able to comprehend all the horrible things that are done to victims in this story.

Shaken

Konrath has a style all his own, mixing humor with horror and all the elements of a good suspense or thriller novel into a police procedural. The horror (just as with his Joe Kilborn pen name) isn't in-your-face. It's subtle, often implied leaving a lot to your imagination, yet no less horrific. If you've read and liked any of the previous books in the Jack Daniels series you'll like Shaken.

One of the things I especially liked was seeing Jack, Herb (her current partner) and Harry (her first partner) change over time. Much of the earliest story line gives a glimpse into the how and why for many of the qualities the characters had for the majority of the series.

Loved It!

Konrath uses a different format for the seventh book in his Jack Daniels series. Instead of a linear story, he gives us glimpses of the present, weaving that in with two separate timelines from Jack Daniels' past. I have to say that I am not normally a fan of this type of out of sequence writing but Konrath handles it masterfully. He ties the events together perfectly, giving a seamless transition from past to present.

This is Konrath at his best. Shaken had me riveted from beginning to end!

Shaken is the latest "Jack Daniels" thriller. This one takes place in three different periods of Jack's life; twenty-one years ago, three years ago and now. From this we learn more about what makes Jack tick and her quest for the killer call Mr. K. More than a quest, it is an obsession. If you have read previous Jack Daniels novels you know that J. A. Konrath adds humor and suspense to keep you turning the page. Although this one isn't as humorous as past stories and the character harry isn't as disgusting, I enjoyed the jumps back and forth through the different time periods to help one understand what makes Jack tick. I was hoping that the story wouldn't end, that' show much I enjoy these stories and when it did, the author's note saddened me but I won't say what he wrote. You'll have to read the book yourself. Interesting note that the villains are character's in another author's (Blake Crouch) stories.
