Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
SHAKER FURNITURE, one of seven volumes in the Built to Last Project Series from Fox Chapel Publishing, offers classic furniture and cabinet projects, including an Enfield side chair, a meeting house bench, a trestle table and a pie safe. Also included are smaller projects such as a wall clock, step stool, pegboard and Shaker boxes. The book's step-by-step instructions and drawings will help the reader build from the plans or serve as a starting point for a custom design.

This is the first book in a new series titled "Built to Last". The initial book looks at the beauty and simplicity of Shaker furniture with some great ideas and plans. Methods of work are discussed and full construction details are illustrated. Chairs, tables, pie safes and other classic Shaker designs are included in this great book. Traditional oval boxes, a wall clock and a step stool are also illustrated. One project that you will certainly want to build is the traditional Shaker rocking chair and the book shows you how to build it. The book also shows you how to 'rush' the seat. An excellent book for both novice and pro woodworkers alike.

Part of the publisher's "Built To Last" series focusing on furniture and cabinetry, this volume presents a small sampling of projects. Background information on Shakers and their influence on style precedes a gallery of furniture samples. The projects embody simple, classic design and include construction information on lathe work, bending the slats, assembly, and weaving the rush seat. The instruction level is not basic but fine for the experienced woodworker.
