I read Shalako because my husband had it. I don't normally like westerns, but this one was excellent. There is a terrible movie by the same name, but it leaves out one of the most interesting characters and adds others and different plot lines. L'Amour's descriptions of the land and the thoughts of the characters are vivid and believable.
