Shalkith is foremost a strategy game, but it contains lots of fun stories, drawings, and quotes that really enhance the game manual's 'fun factor'. You create a dragon from the game's many breeds, skills, spells, and gifts and then attack the dragons of your friends (or rivals). Over time your dragon improves and you can train it in new attacks or buy new gifts to customize your beast. Overall the rules are pretty easy to read with lots of good examples. Once you get playing, things become a lot clearer. It's set in a modern day world, where dragons are the last guardians of the Earth. I found this especially cool...I liked the blend of fantasy and modern. One of my favorite 'random events' along these lines was when Slayers (human army units essentially) decided to attack my dragon. In the game, humans are little more than pests, so it was pretty humiliating when these pesky humans actually damaged my beast. I ended up losing the match because of them! You can play 1 on 1, but the best fun is when you play in groups. That way you can ally with (or betray) your friends *wink* Make sure to check out the game's official site too. It's not listed in the manual oddly, but the site (www.shalkith.com) offers lots of freebies like Dragon sheets and a Battle map that I found helpful. Overall, I'd recommed the game to anyone who is a fan of fantasy RPG's or strategy games. It's easy to learn, fast to play, and the strategies can get pretty in depth. Was this review helpful?
