    Excellent SharePoint book

There are already so many books on the market. How is this one different from others? This book has step by step walkthroughs with plenty of screenshots that makes one's life easier. I am an avid book reader and being a developer, I grab every opportunity to get a developer book. I frequently attend events, seminars etc and I admit I get tons of free books just by attending events but I also like purchasing books if they provide solution to my problem at hand. This one really helped me with the development of SharePoint services. Deploying sharepoint service is a hell of a difficult job. It seems easier but it is not. Thanks to the book's website that offered free sample chapters. Looking at the sample chapters I instantly decided on buying this book. I dont regret my decision. Book is also available in ebook format on some sites but that's not my cup of tea. I like reading paperback editions. I can read it anywhere, for example, before going to bed or in a car waiting for someone. Book has good information on infopath development. It has a chapter of web part development. If you are .NET developer and want to develop for SharePoint, buy this book. Basically SharePoint and Infopath development is .NET development but to get the confidence that you need it's important that you read books by the experienced authors. That's how I learned SharePoint programming. I highly recommend this book to students, new users and those who are looking for a spoon that will feed them with the free code and information. Before I forget, all source code can be downloaded from the accompanying web site. Thank you very much author for the good book. I am sure it will help many others just like it helped me. Finally, chapters at a glance: installing sharepoint, creating site collection, working with Office, creating web serices, creating web parts, infopath development, publishing infopath forms, tips and tricks.

Good book on SharePoint and InfoPath development

I know it is difficult to push everything, every topic into a single book. Probably, that's the reason we see so many books on SharePoint, each entertaining a different subject. This book, although a SharePoint book, has some really good stuff on InfoPath development. I am a developer and I know market trends. InfoPath is used in almost 80% of the companies where SharePoint is deployed yet if you look at the percentage of InfoPath books, it's nothing as compared to SharePoint. Believe me, InfoPath is not a child's play. It is a serious development tool. I have seen some good professional apps created with InfoPath and SharePoint. I recently started an application in InfoPath and SharePoint and needed some help in some issues. A friend, who got a free copy of this book somewhere, recommended this book. I am happy I bought it. This is my personal opinion, this book really helped me. It had everything a developer needs to know about InfoPath and SharePoint development. It has chapters on InfoPath development, publishing, fixing issues, using SharePoint as a storage for InfoPath. I am not talking about the storage of forms, but the data entered in InfoPath form can also be stored in SharePoint lists instead of a database. That was amazing. There are several areas which could have been made better but I got my job done so I am satisfied. I would say this book will be best for beginners who are just starting exploring SharePoint and specially development and those who already know development but are looking for some creative examples. I hope I am not exaggerating. I found it useful and I am sure there will be many who will find this book quite useful. The best thing about it, it's very simple, written in plain and simple English and I like the tutorial like methodology of explaining things. You don't see paragraphs over paragraphs of non-stop commentry. All you see is step-by-step walkthroughs of examples that show you how to create something in real life situation. Another plus point, each step has a screenshot that makes understanding the step very easy. At first I thought screenshots were way too much but later I realized that they were important. Just imagine, a beginner who is learning development, how much difference will it make for him/her to understand something with or without screenshots. With screenshots, it will be a breeze of fresh air for him. Without screenshots, he will have to keep the software open infront of him just to see what the author is actually talking about. That makes easy reading difficult sometimes, therefore, I liked the idea of providing screenshots with each step. I am not a professional review writer but this was my 2 cents. I thought I liked the book so I should say something about it. Hopefully someone else will benefit from my review. As I was recommended this book and I benefited from it, I recommend it to you. Buy it and enjoy it. By the way, it has chapters on web parts, SharePoint search, web service development, InfoPath development, Other Office programs like Groove, OneNote, etc., Installation, creating site collections, and of course tips and tricks. Enjoy!

    -Sonja
