Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
They may be the oldest words still with us, and they’ve lost none of their power: “Tell me a story!” Your digital camera is one of the most amazing storytelling tools ever created. If you’re just shooting snapshots, you could be doing so much more.

This book’s passion for digital storytelling is infectious -- and the best part is this: It’s easy. The software’s free or cheap, and the visual narrative skills it teaches aren’t difficult.

You’ll discover how to coax a compelling story from a day trip, a vacation, a ball game, even a few quiet moments at home. The authors show how to bring immediacy, authenticity, and intimacy into your photos. How to shoot and use sequences. How to tie together your vacation photos with digital maps.

With digital, you can share your images in whole new ways...but it’s even more than that. Suddenly, images can begin to suffuse your life.

Carry your CF card around with you. Use a digital camcorder to show your images on your dad’s TV. Build slide shows that are truly immersive experiences (Microsoft Plus! Photo Story is great for that). Create your child’s online memory album -- one that brings your whole family closer. Illustrate your own legacy, too: the lifelong event that is you.

Most of us use our digital cameras roughly the way our grandparents used their Kodak Brownies. This book will open your eyes to a far richer way of preserving and sharing your memories. Bill Camarda

Bill Camarda is a consultant, writer, and web/multimedia content developer. His 15 books include Special Edition Using Word 2003 and Upgrading & Fixing Networks for Dummies, Second Edition.

Go from snapshots to amazing personal expression!

This is a GREAT book filled with amazing ideas about transforming your digital photos into a whole range of forms that allow you to CREATIVELY EXPRESS YOURSELF. The book has some good stuff about digital photography techniques, but it's main value is to help you make your photos PERSONAL. Wow!

    Microsoft targets our memories!!!

Interesting subject matter -- the sharing of memories. Certainly one that every digital camera company is banking their future on. So too is Microsoft and their quest to control the mechanisms by which we share our memories. ¿Your Passion. Our potential.¿ This book works wonderfully with their recent marketing mantra. When you consider this slogan, it¿s no wonder how and why this book was published. Fortunately, the text and tips avoid the normal pitfalls of biased opinion on what cameras and software packages the everyday consumer should use. Nor does it get caught in the all-too- tempting promotion of endless Microsoft products. Overall, I'd say it's worth a look, but not if you are seeking real insight into the art of digital photography.
