Overview

From the USA Today bestselling author of True, Sweet, and Believe comes a tantalizing New Adult novel about finding love in the most unexpected ways…

Kylie Warner prides herself on being optimistic, but after finding her best friend in bed with her boyfriend and flunking chemistry, her upbeat attitude has taken a dive. Even an impromptu hook-up with her sexy new chemistry tutor only brightens her mood slightly. After all, it’s not like she’ll ever see the tattooed scholar again…

While he’s a whiz at complex equations, Jonathon Kadisch has trouble when it comes to figuring out women. So when Kylie tells him that she’s pregnant after their night of passion, he’s at a complete loss. He’s prepared to be a good father—unlike his own deadbeat dad—but he’s less prepared to fall for the genuine and alluring blonde bearing his child.

With emotions running high, Kylie wonders if Jonathon’s devotion is out of growing love or looming obligation. And when heartbreak threatens to tear them apart, Jonathon will have to fight for the only girl who’s ever made him feel whole…

An unexpected pregnancy sparks a relationship in McCarthy’s fourth True Believers novel (after Believe), but the resultant trappings of melodrama fail to bring the story to life. College student Kylie Warner, heartbroken over her boyfriend’s infidelity with her best friend, has a one-night stand with her chemistry tutor, Jonathon “Darwin” Kadisch. During her subsequent pregnancy, they bond over her ex’s attempts to get her back, hyperemesis, and the work and worry of juggling school and baby-planning for both of them. Kylie and Darwin are both such practical, committed, stable people that even the best efforts of a genre-standard, one-dimensional villain can’t pull them apart long enough to generate real conflict. The characters are well depicted, but the clichéd obstacles in their way make the story forgettable and shapeless. (Sept.)

I loved this book! Jessica and Jonathan are funny and frustrating at the same time.  There were times when I wanted to smack both of them for being stupid and there were times I was laughing like crazy because of the stuff they say or do. If you've read anything by Erin McCarthy before then you know that you won't be disappointed with Shatter. The chemistry between Jess and Jonathan is undeniable and Erin writes her stories in a way that make you feel what they feel. This is definitely a must read!

This book was an excellent way to end the True Beliver Series. Jonathan was my favorite character out of them all. I loved his tenderness towards Jessica and that made this story for me.

I loved this conclusion to the True Believers Series! Kylie Warn

I loved this conclusion to the True Believers Series! Kylie Warner has been betrayed by her boyfriend, who slept with one of her best friends, who was also a roommate. In order to distance herself from the pain, Kylie has moved into an apartment by herself. She is not recovering well, and this normally upbeat, people loving girl is in a very bad place. On top of that, she is failing chemistry. A tutoring session with genius Jonathon "Darwin" Kadisch leads to a passionate encounter and a pregnancy. Even though he doesn't think he wants a relationship with Kylie, Jonathon steps up and is there for her. As the two spend time together, the chemistry between them flares, and they start to care about one another.

I thought that Kylie and Jonathon were both wonderful characters. Kylie is a very sweet, likable girl, and Jonathon was swoon-worthy. He tried very hard to be responsible and there for Kylie. I loved the two of them together, and enjoyed the steamy scenes between the two of them. The storyline kept my interest and I was very satisfied with the conclusion to the book and series, although I will miss these characters!

Kylie world was shattered when her boyfriend cheated on her with one of friends. Now that she knows about the cheating and her life is in turmoil. She doesn’t feel comfortable in her previous home and she doesn’t feel comfortable around her friends.

She just needs to get her school back on track. So Kylie speaks to one of her Instructors and they give her a recommendation for a tutor for her chemistry class so she can pass her final. When Kylie goes to meet Jonathan at the coffee house for tutoring she has no idea who she is going to meet.

When Jonathan and Kylie spend one very intimate night together they never expect to end up getting pregnant. This story is amazing story telling of the struggles that young couples go through. There is amazing twist and turns in this book as they move through many hurdles with the assistance of there friends and family.

I was really sucked into this book and didn’t want to put it down. I highly recommend this book to readers who have read the previous book in this series due to we get to see more about some of our favorite characters.

I received this review as and ARC from NETGALLEY AND FROM THE AUTHOR.

I loved seeing the other people in this series and seeing how their lives have progressed since the very first book. And Kylie and Jonathon/Darwin are such a great couple. Darwin stole my heart with his awesome nerdness.

To briefly sum up Shatter- We follow Kylie who while still reeling from her good-friend-sleeping-with-her-boyfriend betrayal, has a one night fling with her smart and sexy as all get out chemistry tutor Jonathon which then results in a baby surprise. Oh MY!! Yeah, that happens! And in true McCarthy fashion it's written and carried out in a realistic narrative. Kylie and Jonathon struggle to come to terms with their predicament and each other in a very believable way. I appreciated that while there wasn't another huge shocker thrown in just to angst up the story for the reader, that instead we got a plot that flowed nicely, allowing us to connect into the characters emotions easily. I liked that Kylie was an instantly relatable character with a sweet personality and especially loved her close relationship with her mother. As for Jonathon, I've always been a huge fan of geek/nerd boys and this is one of the very few books I've ever come across to give them the attention they deserve and oh how McCarthy delivered! *happy sigh* In the end TRUE, book one of the True Believers still remains my favorite of the series but Shatter definitely does not disappoint!!

Shatter by Erin McCarthy is the 4th book in her New Adult True

Shatter by Erin McCarthy is the 4th book in her New Adult True Believers series. This series is about 4 best friends, doing what friends do; telling each other all their secrets, including their sex with boyfriends, partying, and just worrying and taking care of each other. Each book had one of the girls story, as they met their match. Shatter belongs to Kylie Warner, who is just coming off of the shock of finding out her boyfriend slept with her best friend.

Jonathon Kadisch, is a budding scientist, who could be considered somewhat of a geek, but he is also hot. While Kylie is trying to get over her ex, Nathan, she is worried her grades are failing. Asking for help with her chemistry class, she meets her new tutor, Jonathan (Darwin). It doesn’t take long before the vulnerable Kylie and Jonathon end having sex. But both agree…this was just a one night stand.

A few weeks pass, and surprise surprise, Kylie is pregnant. When Jonathon finds out, he is determined to support Kylie through this, as she wants to keep the baby, since she loves children. It becomes a difficult pregnancy for Kylie, but Jonathon and her friends are there to support her. But to no one’s fault, Kylie loses the baby.

What follows is a nice story of two people, totally different, but in a short time they realize that there was still something strong between them. With the pregnancy no longer an issue, can they overcome their differences to stay together?

Into the mix were Kylie’s friends and their boyfriends, who made this more fun. I did like Kylie and Jonathon together, but for some reason, there seemed to be something missing. Kylie truly was very likeable, bubbly, and fun, and even though Jonathan was different, they fell in love with each other. Perhaps it was Kylie’s lack of confidence that she is the best person for Jonathon. Her constant insecurities herself, added the angst to the story, and I personally thought this became somewhat annoying. Jonathon was a great guy, sweet and cute; a perfect guy for Kylie, and he had his own garbage with a very bad father figure, who plays a part in this story.

I enjoyed the story, it was a fast read, some humorous fun moments, and some really nice secondary characters, who had their own stories already told. Kylie and Jonathon were a nice couple, they had hot sex often, but I did not feel the chemistry between them. Shatter is a good fast read that tied in with the other stories in this series.

I am an avid reader, and I have been a fan of Erin McCarthy's for many years.  I just completed the fourth book, Shatter, in her series,
True Believers, and it was amazing!  Shatter explores the lives of Kylie and Jonathon and how their relationship transpires.  It is an
emotional roller coaster, and I could not put it down!  If you have not read the other books in the series, I would suggest that you start
from the beginning and not stop until you have finished Shatter - you will not be disappointed.  Trust me, you will not want this series to
end.  Shatter is a fantastic read on its own, but if you know the background stories of all the ‘now' secondary characters and relate to and
understand those characters and Kylie, the main character in this book, I think this story will impact you even more.  I know it had that
effect on me.  I laughed out loud and even cried at times for Kylie and Jonathon - which to me is the mark of a phenomenal story.

As for the author, I continue to be in awe of Erin McCarthy because each of her story-lines is so very different - she is not the kind of
author that writes in an expected pattern whereby you can guess the ending.  I am constantly surprised by the twists and turns in each
book and there is always something in each book that has me saying to myself “I never saw that coming.”  I find her writing to be
descriptive and brilliant, the subject matter relevant, and truly enjoy the way she can transport me into the characters’ lives, making me
    feel invested in their outcomes.

I received this book for free in exchange for a honest review, and honestly...it is a must read!

Enjoyable read from this series. We find out about Kylie's story. She is a pretty blond girl that we think is maybe not too bright. Her heart gets broken in the book before this in this series. Enter Darwin/Jonathan a very smart, slightly older man who helps to tutor her. Instant attraction and then some. Read the book to find out about their ups and downs. I would have given it a 5 star but the ending seemed rushed. Also, I think this is the end of this series unless there is a story about Jayden and Easton? I love Erin McCarthy"s books especially her Fast Track series. This series is more of a NA format. TRUE, BELIEVE, SWEET and SHATTER.

Sigh.  I haven't read anything to confirm or deny this, but I'm

Sigh.  I haven't read anything to confirm or deny this, but I'm pretty sure this is the last book in the series.  I mean, who is left?  So with that in mind, it was a bittersweet read.  I've really grown to love all of the characters who remain constant in the series, and saying goodbye is not something I am entirely ready for.  Double Sigh.  With that said, Shatter really ended the series with a bang.  With every new book in the series, I'm sure I won't love it more than the one before, and with every new book, it quickly becomes my favorite.

Kylie.  Oh the poor girl.  You know, she really got the raw deal when she discovered Nathan's infidelity, and worse - that it was with Robin.  It was lifechanging, but really - we all met Nate.  Is he really worth another tear?  Kylie is such a good hearted girl, I've been looking forward to her book.  And she really gets run through the wringer in this book.  If you thought she was a less-than-critical character or kind of fluffy before, this really is her moment to shine.  This girl ROCKS.  I don't know how she survived her story, but you just kind of sit back in awe.  Erin McCarthy makes Kylie real.  She makes me want to know this girl and be a part of her circle.

And Darwin, er... Jonathon.  Whatever you want to call him.  He is simply adorbs, as Kylie would say.  I loved him.  He is so sweet and strong, and his logical brain is really quite a turn on .  And with the whole pregnancy thing, he really became a superhero in my eyes.  He became the epitome of how a man should be with a woman who is pregnant.  Their less than ideal situation became tangled and twisted, and he stood at the end of the rope like he knew how to straighten it.

Let's talk the story.  There's a pregnancy, we learn that in the blurb.  Ok, those of you who read the blurbs knew.  I didn't.  And I was blown away.  Shock and awe, people.  But much in the way unplanned pregnancies go, you are scared to death, and then before you realize it, before the baby is even born, you are a parent.  Kylie and Jonathon have the cores to be the best parents on the planet, and I am totally rooting for them from beginning to end.

But Erin McCarthy really takes you through the paces in this book.  There will be tears and heartbreak.  Don't forget the loneliness and downright sorrow.  Add in a heap of jealousy and a bit of fear... It's really this fantastic rainbow of emotion, and I loved every freaking minute.  Jonathon and Kylie definitely know how to heat up the pages, their emotions coming through loud and clear.  Seriously, I loved every freaking minute.

And hey, if this is the end of the series you will be glad to know that you get a sneak into the futures of everyone in the group.  I couldn't have picked a better ending for this book, or this series, other than having it never ever end.  I've truly loved every step of the way.  If you haven't picked up this series, I definitely suggest you do.

The feeling that I have when I turn the last page of a book is always telling. If I've been counting the pages and just waiting for it to be over, then I'm not satisfied. If I wish there were more pages and I can't believe I just sat for like three hours without even noticing the time, then I am satisfied. This book, it's the satisfying kind.

In a bit of a reading slump, every book I picked up lately got put back down. Then I picked up Shatter. I was half way through it before I came up for air. I looked around and thought, dang...I have to go to bed. But I finished it off the next night.

I love these characters. Jonathon is a nerd. He's scary smart but he also sports hipster glasses, an arm full of tats and some sexy muscles. A total cutie. Not sure what the sexy Kylie sees in him, he's falling despite the logic of the matter.

Kylie has feeling for Jonathon too but can she ever be enough for him with her average intellect. Throw in her crushed heart that her ex stomped on and the little bun that accidentally ends up in her oven and she's a confused girl.

Here's the important part...I guessed some of the story but I wasn't sure how she was going to resolve all the very real issues between these two. A twist I didn't see coming was a catalyst for some serious soul searching and a resolution that felt genuine.

I have loved each book a little more as this series has progressed. Erin McCarthy threads real characters with some sexy scenes and creates such satisfying stories.

If you've read the rest, then don't miss this one. If you have read this series, you should. It's some of the best New Adult out there.

I bought this book day it came out. I was excited to read this opposites attract (genius tattooed hero and bubbly girlie girl heroine) unplanned pregnancy with someone I barely know New Adult Romance.

The book was going along great until the half way point. And then like so many New Adult books it had to take these conflicts and add in several more to make things much more over the top than they needed to be and limit the couple time to deal with the drama.

Bah. I like my romance about relationships and I lost that fun at this point in the novel. I can't tell you what the conflicts were because of spoilers but I didn't think either one was needed.

If you like more angst than a hospital waiting room, you might like the later parts of the plot. I did not.  It just became overwrought for me.
