I had never heard of this case before, but I love true crime books (usually read Ann Rule). This book captivated me and I downloaded it onto my NookColor and finished it within 24 hours. After reading this book, there is no doubt in my mind that David Temple murdered his very pregnant wife. May Belinda & baby Erin rest in peace and may David rot in prison!

I flew through this book, it was so interesting. What a sad story though. I agree with others, I usually read Ann Rule but KAthryn CAsey is just as good!

Don't all of us wonder why some people cross the line and commit murder? As an avid True Crime reader, that is all that matters to me--WHY? And Kathryn Casey, the master of True Crime, never disappoints. David Temple seemed to be a cherished son of Texas and certainly the "All-American Boy" with his superb football skills. He had an intense and charming demeanor which was seemingly irresistible, especially to certain women. He was adored by his parents and brothers, to the extent that all of them seemed to overlook or simply ignore his dark side, and there were plenty of warnings that it existed. Casey lists all of them. Did the delightful Belinda Lucas fall so desperately in love with this overbearing man because of her equally overbearing father? Certainly that's one explanation, but fall she did, to her enormous peril. There are some who still question that David Temple marched his eight-months-pregnant wife upstairs while holding a shotgun to her head and executed her, but I have no doubt he committed this chilling crime because of all the family background supplied by Kathryn Casey. I'm sure his parents (who never chastised David for anything--BIG parental lesson here) still consider him innocent of killing their daughter-in-law and granddaughter, but in this case the jury got it dead right. It's a true cautionary tale, well worth the read.

A book you cannot put down, as you will see when you read this book. The only thing that bothers me now is why Belindas boy is living with.......heather should have been proscuted, i think theres more to the story involving heather. This book will never leave my mind. R.I.P Belinda and lil angel

Having read true crime books by other authors, I was totally fascinated by Shattered. Ms. Casey gave details without bogging the reader down with them. It was easy to remember who the players were and keep them straight. I was not tempted to skip ahead as was often the case with other books I've read. She really knows how to write a book that is hard to put down. It is excellently writen and a fast-read.

I have read most of Kathryn Casey's books, and she has once again exceeded my expectations with Shattered. Mrs. Casey makes Katy, Texas, and the surrounding area come alive as she keeps the reader's eyes glued to the true story of Belinda Lucas Temple's murder by her husband, David Temple. I felt as if I was part of the plot! The research, details, and background info are astounding. You don't want to miss this one!

This book was very much timeline-based and factual - so much so, that I dare ask why David and his family apparently never received any reprocussion from attempting to taint, strong arm, and guide official witnesses! I was left mouth agape with my head shaking, utterly flabberghasted. And for the 'new' Mrs. Temple, there is a special place in hell for her. I would love for Belinda's family to get custody of her son - he has no business being with that whore - the mistress of the man who killed his mother... come on America, really, this is screaming 'best interest of the child' isn't it.

Author is good; book moves along at an interesting pace; nothing special; no real suspense; predictable

Kathryn Casey is awesome as usual. It is easy to tell she has put in many hours of research into this book. She brings you into the lives of the people she writes about and makes you feel like you know them. She writes True crime the way I like it, with lots of biographical information and not simply repeating what we already know during the investigation and trial and not just taken from transcripts and articles. The only thing I was hoping for was a twist at the end but there wasnt one. Otherwise an interesting true story that was very well written.

Kathryn Casey once again brings you into the tragic lives of those affected by a horrible crime. This is a heartbreaking story of a family shattered by a sociopath. If you love true crime stories you will really enjoy this book. I highly recommend it.

This is such a sad story, and my heart goes out to Belinda Lucas' family and friends. Kathryn Casey does a wonderful job truly capturing Belinda's life and the events which unfolded over the course of many years leading up to her heartbreaking murder and the death of Baby Erin. Ms. Casey brings this story, with all of it's details and characters, remarkably to life in a way that was mostly easy to follow. Though the reader almost knows, from the beginning, how this story will end, there is still an element of suspense throughout its entirety that left me not wanting to put this book down. The pursuit of justice in this case took years of persistent dedication on the parts of Texas law enforcement officials, Belinda's family and friends, their legal counsel and others who have finally been able to achieve what has needed to be done for so long. These courageous men and women have not let any obstacle stand in the way of bringing Belinda and Erin's cold-blooded killer to justice.

I knew David Temple was guilty of this murder the first time I had heard of it happening. This book was so compelling, so through, so interesting. David Temple is a sociopathic, narcisstic personality. What a monster. He believed he could have it all.

I had a hard time putting this book down.

It was an excellent book and it captured your imagination. It was very detailed and would make a great movie. Kathryn writes as if she was right there watching it unfold. You will love this book. My heart goes out the victim of the unborn child. He deserves to be where he is at today.

I lived 4 houses behind Belinda house. I even knew the Temple family. David's reputation was that of a bully. I was on my way home from work on the day of the murder, as soon as I heard what happened I knew without doubt he did it. He went out of his way to not be near the house when he says the murder happened. Also there really is no way a person was coming into the yard and the dog wouldn't have tried to attack. I always walked my dogs and I would never walk them near their fence. Everyone knows he did it. There were a few points the author didn't make that I would have liked to read about, but overall a great read. A couple of times a year I Vist her grave along with others I have lost. She was a great person and a great neighbor. I know she is at peace now.

Kathryn Casey has climbed to the top of best true crime writers. Again in this book she keeps your attention and is not repetitive as some authors can be.Move Over Ann Rule. There's plenty of room at the top for all.

This book is not the best I have read, but is ok. I found it to jump around and repeat and it was confusing to keep up with certain people due to the organization of the book. This is such a sad story and kind of pathetic in how people lied and supported the husband. I wish it had been organized and written better to trully give such a horrible and shocking story its real due.
