Not for the Faint of Thought

Zacharias provides a deep, profound examination of the vapidity and futility of an atheistic position. The charge has been levelled against the author that he creates a 'straw man atheism' that is subsequently easy for him to refute and tear down. Having read this book several times, I may only reach the conclusion that such a position betrays a lack of having fully understood the work or even (possibly) of having not actually read it through to completion. Zacharias is not, as some have said, a Christian who knows nothing of atheism--in fact, he was raised in a hindu background and originally named for a hindu priest, but lived until his late teens/early twenties as an atheist. I recommend wholeheartedly this work to anyone willing to commit themselves to earnest thought and introspection. I have given Zacharias' book 4 stars as it at times bogs down; readers who are not familiar with formal philosophy may get somewhat confused, but careful diligence and rereading (have a good dictionary on hand) can easily overcome this. All in all a phenomenal work of the greatest intellectual depth and academic integrity.

    Of the mark considerably

This author is truly ignorant of the subject matter with which he covers. The only thing this book reveals, is how little some people know about the position of atheism. It is a vain attempt on the authors part to reassure the religious reader that an atheist is simply a scorned believer who didn't get his way. I would suggest a book like George H. Smith's: Atheism: the case against god, as a much more accurate picture of a educated atheist and rationalist.
