Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Shawn and his dog Keeper are really close pals. They even have the same birthday. This year they both will be six years old and they work together on preparing for the party. The piĀ¤ata is in the shape of a dog and even though Keeper bursts some of the balloons that he plays with, there are still plenty to hang from the ceiling. The day of the party, Shawn and his friends play games and eat hot dogs, and now it is time for the cake. Oh No, the pan is empty. Where is the cake, and who is the culprit? It all ends well with a very happy birthday for Shawn and his dog. Part of the "Dutton Easy Reader" series.
Library Journal
Gr 1-2-Shawn and his dog were born on the same day and are now about to turn six. In preparation for the festivities, the balloons and pi ata are hung. The guests arrive and it's time for the cake-but it has disappeared. The large-print text is very simple, with usually only three or four lines per page. Bright, colorful cartoons capture the exuberance of the child and his pet as they anticipate and celebrate their special day. The illustrations are not of a high artistic value, but they do illuminate the story and hold readers' attention.-Lori Haas Weaver, Montmorency County Public Libraries, Atlanta, MI Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
