    a second chance

It was pretty weird how the protagonist's mom wanting to be a sixteen-year-old again. It's understandable that the mother didn't have the opportunity to live her life as a teen, but still, it's just the fact that she's finally realized, that her young years, are over. On the other hand, you do look young if you feel young.

    A reviewer

Ms. and Mrs. Norfleet presents with a totally awesome story about the right of passage between a mother and daughter. Laura Frasier decides to go back to her hometown to restore and sell the family home. In doing so she not only discovers a long lost friend but she reconnects with a side of herself that seems to have gotten lost in the mix of being a mother and wife. Tamika Frasier, a high school student has definite plans for the summer in the form of a photo internship and is ticked off (to say the least) when she discovers that her plans have been changed by her parents and that she has to accompany her mother to her home town via road trip. Tamika being the typical teen with the ipod, cell phone and the misconception that it's all about her, does not understand when her mom stops to reconnect and introduce her to her family roots. The whole concept of spending this time with her mother is lame but she quickly discovers that she and her mother are more alike that she ever dreamt as she watches her mother revert back to her teen years. In doing so, Laura changes her appearance, hangs out and parties with old friends, ignores her husband and reconnects with a high school crush all leaving Tamika to think that she has most definitely lost her mind. This whole new attitude causes a reversal of roles leaving Tamika acting the adult and Laura the teenager. If you run across this book and not pick it up you will do yourself a serious disservice. The characters have very strong and distinct voices that will enlighten the reader. I found this book to be very diverse and appealing to parents and teens alike. I applaud Ms. Jennifer Norfleet on her debut as an author. I was not able to tell which author wrote which character which is amazing since her mom is a veteran author. Jennifer must be a natural or Celeste is a dynamic teacher. Either way, My hat goes off to them both on a job well done. Reviewed by: Eleanor S. Shield, Black Butterfly Review
