I have read this play several times, each time opening new doors in my mind. Much like Shakespeare's Twelfth Night or Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, this is a comedy of errors---although the errors are not drastic in She Stoops to Conquer. The first time it is read or performed, it is easy to remember it only as a simple comedy. Rereading it is a joy. The characters that at first seemed typical and simple theater tools, become tangible as you realize that they are reflections of something truer. The introduction by Trevor Griffiths is enlightening. Trevor Griffiths presents illuminating insight on the characters and symbolism, extensive understanding of the time period, and the risky nature of Oliver Goldsmiths comedy endeavor. The book and characters are endearing to me. May they be so to you as well.
It is clear that the nature of humanbeing is concerned with it is place, situation, and century.this drama tell us about the culture of brititsh soceity in 18th century, might be in general! Gold smith interested in love in his drama;but which kind of love, shy lover Marlow, and kate who is realy a heroin in this dramma, are the symbol of two couple. in british society in 18th century the responsibilty in marriage is under the controle of their parents. perhaps mutual understanding has a great role between the two couples.kates stabilty is deserved to respect, because she is a unique character in reality she gives us a good strange behavior. kate is an example of praiseness a beutiful symbol of equality in British society because her ability proves a hiden love of shy lover Marlow .
