Excerpt:

"Sheila! What the fuck… Sheila! Come down and see this! Oh fuck!"
Bernard's muffled cries for her help traveled through the concrete walls of their house, past her covers and into her annoyed ears. She ignored it, if anything happened to him, it would probably make starting a free life so much easier.
A shot rang out into the air. Sheila sat up on instinct. She thought whatever was hanging out in the garden was probably a cat or a mole or some other animal; some animal that kind Bernard usually wouldn't shoot.
But this was different. Like any other man, he would fight back only when threatened, and there weren't many animals in the neighborhood threatening enough to pull the trigger on.
"Bernard?" Sheila ventured cautiously as she slipped on a jacket over her nightgown and searched for a flashlight.
"Ahhhhh! Oh god what the fuck is this? Oh god it's… ahhhh!" Bernard's screams sounded desperate.
Sheila perked up in an instant as she found a flashlight and turned it on. Its LED-white glow was of little comfort as she took small, tentative steps down the stairs and towards the garden.
"Bernard?" She called out, letting her flashlight illuminate the path before her.
There was no answer.
"God dammit Bernard, this isn't funny! Answer me you fool!"
Silence greeted her as she entered her kitchen. The back door was left ajar, still swinging slightly on its hinges thanks to the cool night breeze.
"All right, Bernard, you got me good. Now could you just tell me you're all right so that we both can go back to bed?"
"Unnnh! Unnnnnh! Oh god! Unnnh!" A familiar, far off voice rang in her ears, piquing both her curiosity and her apprehension. It was a sound that Bernard rarely made. In fact, Sheila only remembered him moaning like that… four years ago.
This had gone too far. Sheila kicked open the back door, flashlight on maximum brightness. Anymore of this and she might as well burst a blood vessel.
"Bernard, so help me god I'm going to -" Sheila gasped, her eyes on the verge of popping out of their sockets.
What the… what the fuck is that?!
Standing, no, towering over her was this massive, slimy blob off… something alien. Its numerous tentacles idled in the air, feeling, sensing. The flashlight was useless in showing Sheila the extent of its size and so was the shotgun, probably, in warding it off.
"What are you…" Sheila wondered aloud as she stepped back to trigger the switch next to her.
The garden flooded with light.
Holy, fuck.
