Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Samantha DeGrasse
Shelby the Cat takes young readers on a journey with a remarkable cat. Shelby is an honest and helpful cat who is well liked. However, a gang of cats try to steer Shelby in the wrong direction; luring him to make poor choices. Shelby has to decide whom he will follow and what to do about these bullies. The interesting plot has situations with which even young children can relate. Discover whether Shelby allows these cats to influence him and how he handles peer pressure. The book is written in a comic book style with words in bubbles. It is short and rhymes in a manner young readers and listeners will enjoy. The coloring of the book is dark, giving the feeling that there may be dangerous things happening. In the back of the book, Winn has added questions which parents can use to spark conversations about bullying and peer pressure with their children. Reviewer: Samantha DeGrasse
