This best-loved children's song has been revised and expanded into a rollicking read-aloud. Go, grab the young'uns and get set for the wildest, wackiest Bank Street book ever! Full color.
School Library Journal - School Library JournalGr 1-2As a parody of the popular folk song, this version presents a boisterous family celebration that is a little too overzealous for emerging readers to comprehend. Few will be able to handle vocabulary such as ``do-si-do,'' ``rhinestones,'' ``razzle-dazzle,'' ``Hallelujah,'' ``piccalilli,'' or ``cavorting.'' The print, however, is large and well suited to early readers. Barnes-Murphy's illustrations are delightful in their zany depiction of the people and animals. All of the characters look jubilant and somewhat silly. But in terms of the text itself, Robert Quackenbush's She'll Be Comin' `Round the Mountain (HarperCollins, 1973; o.p.) or Tom and Debbie Birdseye's She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain (Holiday, 1994) make more satisfying read-alouds.Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, IA
